People really care about this?

Re: People really care about this?

I can go on and on about how building a guitar is gonna cost some life, no matter if it is the tree, or if the man-made products like metals are mined and the mines devastate the environment. I am sure even carbon fiber guitars leave some sort of footprint on the environment. So, while hypocritical and strange to want a vegan guitar, let's not bash these lifestyle choices, ok?
We can all call out the absurdity of statements, but let's leave it there. We welcome everyone here, even those whose choices we don't agree with.

Re: People really care about this?

I can proudly say that not a single LBGT tree was harmed in the making of any of my guitars ...

Re: People really care about this?

If we're gonna go off topic, let's go way off....

On the subject of trees...
Since pollen is actually plant sperm, does that make hay fever an STD?
And further to that, since none of us voluntarily inhale pollen, I also submit that we all spend the entire spring being raped by trees.

Re: People really care about this?

I'm fine with the idea, on principle.

But the tone won't have any meat to it!

Are they planning on eating the guitar?

If you play with your teeth, or something else, maybe there's a concern there.

Wow, while it's been a while since I've last been happy to be living here, at the very least I have to admit that I'm glad we don't have these kinds of problems.

That's not to say that there aren't people that want to be alternative and hip by being different, it's just that when they aren't being shunned, they're just being largely ignored.
That has nothing to do with their life choices, whatever those may be, BTW.
It's simply that we have next to zero tolerance to posers (unless it's well-built, possibly hormone-enhanced musclemen and perfect-hipped women. Then we're apparently OK with it...).

Re: People really care about this?

...hate that elephants have almost been wiped out for ivory.. Bone nuts are most likely sourced from things already dead, so....
Those are the concepts that confuse me. The bone is a byproduct, meaning (to oversimplify) you either make use of it, or it goes into the garbage. I could understand the thought process that to condone bone usage is by proxy condoning the meat industry, or that you've contributed to the profits I suppose. But what should be a vegan approved nut material is fossilized mammoth ivory. Nothing was killed for this material. To me it's like...literally as "of the earth" as a plant by now. It's kind of th equivalent if you consider that animals die, decay, then become plant food. This animal died, decayed, then became fossilized by earth conditions.

All that said, TusQ is a nice material, as are other graphites and synthetics. If the general reason to avoid even the fossilized ivory is because it's "yucky" to the vegan, just knowing that an animal part is on the guitar, I can respect that.

Re: People really care about this?

I don't care if someone wants to go vegan for their own personal reasons, but they become fanatics of the highest order. They constantly have to justify their own beliefs and look down on you for not following them.

On topic, TUSQ is a great material for nuts. It just sounds so good.

I'm sorry man but rounding every vegetarian/vegan in the same category of fanaticism is ignorant. Preaching vegetarism is indeed irritating (anyone preaching/trying to convert/convice others of anything is beyond irritating/stupid) but the opposite is just as much. I've been a vegan for 16 years, a member here for 14 and I dare anyone to find one example of me trying to convert or preach about it. The same is true of my life outside the internet. However, I can't even begin to count the number of times people have tried to convince me that vegetarism/veganism is stupid and tried to convince me to go back and eat meat...

^ Hear hear

Thats been my point from the outset.

Denigrating other for their beliefs is a jerk move - end of story.

Re: People really care about this?

Herd mentality.
People try to cover and justify their prejudices against others beliefs with a wide array of arguments.
Some people are narrow minded pure and simple.
They usually cover it with statements like: "I have got nothing against "X (insert word here" BUT....."

Then again, some people just believe some things that are just plain stupid.

Re: People really care about this?

I'm vegetarian. I'm not your typical type i just don't like eating meat. Its all the new age vegans that really **** me off.

My sister is like that. She just never really liked meat - she used to secretly feed it to the dog under the table! (though she loves seafood). I like veggies OK as long as they don't get in the way of whatever roasted beasties I am wrestling down my throat
