from all the reading i have been doing on it the custom is the best of those :)
I have a TZ i am replacing also what is it that you did not like about it?

Re: peplacing tone zone in strat

Dimarzio Super3...coming to a JB, Distortion, Demon would be way on the other end of the tone spectrum from a Tone Zone IMO.

Super3 is more in the middle.

the cleans are dull and with lots of gain, the low notes are not muddy but lack crunch and bite. the jb gave the crunch and bite but it was a little to brittle.

Re: peplacing tone zone in strat

i think you may like the custom in it. cleans are alright(useable) and the distortion is awesome. cuts through well and is not too bright or too bassy or too hot either, in the middle whihc is perfect in my opinion.

Re: peplacing tone zone in strat

yeah i was highly considoring a custom. didnt eddie use one? or was that a hybrid?

Re: peplacing tone zone in strat

What about an Invader or Pearly Gates, they go very well with Strats don't they? They're high output too...

i have already had the invader and it was way to muddy for me. the cleans sucked too. im looking for a little more output than what the pearly gates has.

Re: peplacing tone zone in strat

now that i think about, you could check out the screamin demon too. i hear thats a great shreddin pickup.

Re: peplacing tone zone in strat

but the super distortion is a great pickup. especially with trem guitars, balances out great. shred machine as well :saeek:

listen i bought a air zone yesterday,i wanted to get the duncan custom but GC did have have them :smack: have to be ordered with a 2 week wait!
anyway the air zone is a lot like a JB but fatter, deeper it has a better clean tone and the low notes are much better than on the TZ.
it has dynamics and clarity out the wazoo for such a fat toned pup :saeek:
so far it is the best i have tried.but i still want to give the custom a shot

Re: peplacing tone zone in strat

I can only suggest what I would like in that ax: 59 Trembucker or perhaps a Custom Shop EVH. Maybe a Screamin' Demon.

i was thinking about buying an air zone actually. could you post some clips maybe?

Re: peplacing tone zone in strat

I love my Full Shred for metal. I have it in my 2 humbucker ash American Strat. I think it really works well with the strat tone, especially for shred, as the name implies.

Of course, you could always try any of the above SD pups and then exchange with Seymour's 21 day policy...assuming that you want to stick with Duncans.

i have no way to make clips and post, but i can assure you this it is like another pup.
the only thing it has in common with the TZ is the name ZONE
:laugh2:
if you have ever tried a JB it is like that but more vintage and fat sounding.
dimarzio says it is like a extra fat paf and i agree 100% and it has balls to spare when needed.
the duncan custom when i get one will have to be a phenomenal sounding pup
to make me swap it out for this AZ :)

i think im gonna do this. buy the air zone for 60 bucks then if i dont like it i will send it back and get my money back and buy a custom then if i dont like that i will swapp it for a full shred. then if i dont like that im gonna burn all my guitars. :)
