perfect pickup for awesome jazz fusion leads/chords?

I want to build a warmoth strat, but don't know how or where to begin on pickup choices, wood, scale length, all I know is I want two humbuckers. What set should I go for that will give me singing leads and chunky jazz chords. I like Jimmy Herring's leads......I think he uses JBs and 59's. Don't know for sure. Any help to get me started would greatly be appreciated.

Jimmy Herring uses an old Strat with stock pickups. He also uses some PRS semihollowbodies. Those guitars have a mix of pickups. The model I have seen him with most is a semihollowbody with soapbars and another with three soapbars.

It is my opionion that pickup choices are dictated by scale length, hardware, and woods used. Until you decide on those things, it'll be pretty moot to suggest pickups.

Scott Henderson Used 59's in his guitars up until a few years ago.

Was that when he was using H-S-H Ibanez guitars? Before he switched to Suhr's?

He never used HSH to my knowledge. Just HH. Suhr made/makes a HH henderson model although he is pretty much using single coils these days

I consider myself a fairly jazzy player and often play with a rock/blues overdriven tone. I like a neck pickup that's articulate and clear when I want it to be and also overdrives nicely when I want that and I use the Pearly Gates neck.

For the bridge pickup I've been favoring the Duncan Custom and feel that it matches nicely with the PGN. The Custom sounds like a hot vintage pickup to me...it's been described as a 59 on steroids. Not a very pleasant description because that implies a pickup with a very aggressive attitude, whereas the Duncan Custom really just does what I want it to. When I want an aggressive rock or fusion tone it'll do that...when I want a sweeter and bluesier tone it'll do that.

A pair of 59's would be killer too...but the 59N has more bass than I need so I use the PGN instead.

For a sweeter, warmer tone with more mids from the bridge pickup the Custom Custom would be a great bridge pickup with the PGN too.

If you're asking me, YES! I have the PGN and Custom in a alder Strat with a vintage style tremolo and rosewood fingerboard.

IMHO, if you want to listen to some of the best Fusion tone, go to YouTube and do a search on Scott Henderson or Tribal Tech. The tone is amazing...
