Hello , I'm looking into getting a new Jackson guitar and can't decide which SD pickup would be best to have in it. The choices are
SD Zebra humbuckers
Blackouts
I'm wanting to get the Jackson DK2M Pro slime green swirl guitar. Can people help me out on which gives the best tones and would be best for this type of solo guitar.

Re: Perplexed. Need help on SD pickups

Don't DK2Ms come with JB and 59 already? What do you find lacking about those?

Re: Perplexed. Need help on SD pickups

I'm unfamilure with a lot of the SD pickups. Yes the DK2m comes with HH zebra pickups. I'm curious about these pickups and the blackouts.

Re: Perplexed. Need help on SD pickups

They're probably SH4b and SH1n...

oh, they are according to this: http://www.jacksonguitars.com/en-TH...ited-run-maple-fingerboard-slime-green-swirl/

Now these are great all-around rock and metal pickups, and what's really good about it is that a lot of people have used this combo at least once in their lives, so they make a good starting point. My advice is to start playing around with the guitar, practicing, recording and playing live to see if you find something lacking.

Re: Perplexed. Need help on SD pickups

I just don't get it why so many noobes are thinking about getting a new guitar (haven't even gotten or played it yet) and already they are asking what pups to put in it. They aren't even familiar with what pups already come in it or what they even sound like stock.

Geez, get the guitar and play it for awhile and see what it sounds like and whether you like it or not first. In fact, why are you even buying that guitar if you don't even know what it sounds like?!

I couldn't agree with your post more. But I believe the online social media branch of SD is pushing for this.
People should play the guitar first unless they are building something from the ground up using parts... Oh well, to each their own.

D00d, get the guitar and play it. Those are some good pickups. If you play it awhile and decide something is missing, then change the pickups.

I think they are saying that Jackson make guitars either with the zebra 59/JB or blackouts and they want advice on which guitar to get - not that they are thinking of swapping out pickups after buying it.

Whilst i would be happy with the 59/JB combo, but maybe the fact that the blackout set have ceramic mags in the bridge and A5 in the neck would yield more tonal options.

As always, it would depend on the style of music played.

Oh, if that were the case, I'd get the one with the zebra humbuckers. Can't go wrong with JB/59 in superstrats. OF COURSE, for the OP, the answer may be different depending on his rig and style of music.

Wether im buying a new guitar or have an older one to put the pickups in wasnt the question. I simply asked some advise from people on this forum who may have more knowledge about these diffrent pickups than I. As for Jackson guitars they have many models and many diffrent pickups in them. I didnt come here for Derogatory hits. Just help. If this post irritated you i apologize. But over the course of 12 guitars and my 52 years of life experience i've found that the only stupid question is a question not asked. we are always learning in life and finding informitive help can be hard at times. But we all are learning.
For those that did help Thank you. I appreciated it and have taken the advise. Stay safe and have a great day to all.

Re: Perplexed. Need help on SD pickups

I have an old DK2 and I found that the JB really suited the guitar. The guitar has a single coil in the neck so I can't help with the neck humbucker.

Re: Perplexed. Need help on SD pickups

First of all, we'll need to know what style is going to be played on that Jackson. The JB/59 combo is pretty versatile and covers a lot of ground very well.

We/I never mentioned new guitar vs old guitar. Where is this coming from?

If you really are seeking "some advise (sic) from people on this forum who may have more knowledge about these diffrent (sic) pickups than I", then you aught to take that expert advice that is given instead of whining about it.

Over the course of 45-50 guitars and 67 years life experience (54 of them playing guitar) I find that you did get some excellent advice...play the guitar for awhile before deciding to change pups. If you feel that my comments were derogatory, well...if the shoe fits..., or that the advice was not to your liking, don't be so closed minded.

You're right...asking a question is not stupid at all. But asking the question at the wrong time is. (The time to ask the question of which replacement pups to put into a guitar that you haven't even acquired yet is after you've gotten the guitar and played it long enough to know what needs to change about it).

I'm sorry if you are offended by the cold honest truth, but c'mon, let's face some reality here.

Guitar doc your totally right. I was wrong. God bless

Re: Perplexed. Need help on SD pickups

Have you played the guitar yet? Play the guitar and see if you don't love the tone. Once you've played the guitar then you can decided what is "lacking"/"needed"...

Re: Perplexed. Need help on SD pickups

I may be wrong but I think you guys have misunderstood what he was asking... he is choosing between buying a new guitar that he can buy with either blackouts or the 59/jb set and was asking for opinions on both... I could be wrong... OP please correct me if I am...

If you're going to call the guy out on his grammar (twice), you should make sure your I's are dotted and your T's crossed.
