Seymour,

Can you tell me about the pickups used for peter frampton's black tele/custom schecter and black strat/custom schecter built by john suhr while at rudy's music in 1985?

On the strat it has a 3 humbucker configuration....John Suhr thought that the pickups were Duncan (of course! the only pickups to use!).

Im looking for any stats on these pickups, are they custom or stock? I own both guitars, I purchased them from Peter Frampton.

Pics or the guitars can be found @ http://www.geocities.com/project928/photopage.html

thanks...you rock!

Wow, very kool guitars. Seymour does'nt usually check in...only remember seeing him post a few times. Evan is away, but he usually fields these kind of questions since he's with the company. I'm a Telenut myself and that one is a beauty. How did you get Peter to part with those two? Seems like he's fond of black guitars...too bad he lost a lot of them in that plane crash...

My mistake....the tele has 3 EMG (SA?) pickups...its the strat that i was told has custom duncan humbuckers (3). These were made pre-gibson/frampton les paul production...so i can only imagine that the strat was set up to perform the way his black strat from the 70's played/sounded (the one that was destroyed in the plane crash). I know the maple neck was hand shaped to Peters spec's. Both guitars were hand crafted by John Suhr while at Rudys Music-NYC in 1985 (?pre pensa-suhr?)...The only photographs I can find of Peter Frampton playing them was during his time with David Bowie's band in LA California (1987). The humbuckers could be stock pickups, however, its a custom made guitar so i thought it may be possible that these pickups were custom made for Peter.

They are very cool guitars, they posses an energy thats hard to explain...Peter owned these for 19 years, took them on tour and recorded with them...dont know why he decided to part with them...i want to think it has more to do with his relationship with Gibson...however I realy dont know for sure.

Both guitars were custom made so there are no others like them to my knowledge. I feel very fortunate to have them and they play and sound awesome.

IN my Nov '81 GP, Peter tells of his lost gear, and how Seymour gave him a 'Seymourized Frankenstien Strat'. Also of some custom Tele's with a HB at the neck. He also comments of using Duncan pups for an authentic sound, or go the opposite with EMG pups. He does'nt mention any Suhr builds, but then this was '81...before your '85 build date. I don't know if Peter did any more interviews after this, I'm sure he did, maybe some detective work going through old guitar mags may help. Good luck.
