Peter Green sound,,again

This has been done to death, i know but..
Ok I'm familiar with flipping the magnet. Also with swapping the hot/cold (+,-) leads to get the out of phase sound. But why do they not sound exactly the same as each other. I did the lead swap with a push/pull switch on my SD59 4 wire, and it's close but hasn't nailed it. Why?

How do you know? You can't A/B a magnet swap with a lead swap, and hearing is the least 'remembered' of the senses.

If you THINK you hear a difference, then yes, you hear a difference. That doesn't mean there actually is one.

Lead swap/magnet swap...exactly the same thing.

Played with the volume controls for the neck and bridge pickup yet?

Oh Yes. I find it quite trickey to get the 2 pups just right vol and tone wise. I guess I should get numbered knobs so I can duplicate the settings each time. :smack:

No you're right I haven't A/B'd them. I just took it for granted the lead swap would never be as "genuine" as a mag flip....don't know where I got that from.

Re: Peter Green sound,,again

I did the magnet flip in my PRS and I did the lead swap on my LP, I still get the same out-of-phase tone with both of them.

The PRS was an accident. I was putting new p'ups in it when I got it and everyone kept telling me I need to flip the magnet in one of the p'ups for them to work in a PRS. But I also rewired it to have a 3 way switch instead of the 5 way rotary. So that made my pickups out of phase. The thing is, I liked it so much, I left it that way.
