Peter Green Wiring

Can one acheive the Peter Green out of phase sound by wiring the neck and bridge out of phase with a push/pull pot, (four conductor wiring) or is it more complicated than that? I have seen the neck rotated so the pole pieces are closer to the bridge and read that the magnet needs to be flipped, (not rotated). How can the Peter Green mod be made with two Pearly Gates pickups. Can I just do out of phase wiring or do I need to rotate the neck pickup and flip the magnet?

Are the two individual pickup sounds unaffected? What is the word?

Re: Peter Green Wiring

You can wire the pickups out of phase and get really close but if you want to go all the way take the neck pickup apart, pop the magnet out and roll it one half turn over, like rolling a log and put it back in then when you put the pickup back in put it in the ring upside down so that the poles are a slight bit closer to the bridge...thats the closest way to go however simply wiring one of the pickups out of phase or putting a phase switch in there will get you really close...

installing a phase switch is a better idea imo, because then you can have both in phase and out of phase options. it's your choice though.

Re: Peter Green Wiring

The PG sound depends on the bridge pickup having a noticeably hotter wind than the neck, something like 10.0 to 7.5 Kohm. That makes the OOP cancel out much less than with -say- 8.0 to 9.0 and the sound stays fuller.

Also, the magnet flip could theoretically play a role other than phase since you know have the two magnets in the two pickups in opposite alignments. Keep in mind the neck polepiece face the bridge.

Last but not least much of what you hear from PG is bridge pickup, just played well.
