Petrucci used an ADA??

I was helping my guitar tech with his ADA when I found a list of people who have used the MP-1. Petrucci was on it. I'm addicted to DT so I find it odd that I didn't know this. Can anyone enlighten me?

Part of it is that almost everyone who played guitar throughout the 80's & early 90's used one at some point. It doesn't mean it was ever part of "his sound" for an album or tour. I don't like the ADA's, but I had one for a few months back in the day, too. And every once in a while I get the itch to get one to have around again, and it usually passes in a day or so. I've got a Boogie Quad and a Marshall JMP-1 now, so I can't imagine the ADA offering anything I don't have right now.

The H&K Attax head will get you much closer to DT and other Petrucci sounds than an ADA. I mean, when you plug into the ADA does it make you think of DT? Not me. Unless someone has contrary information, like it was THE sound he used on some album, etc, I'd say it's just because everyone had one. I had a Rockman 15 years ago, too!

he might have used one but I don't think it was ever a main part of his sound. He's been pretty much addicted to Boogies since the start

I had someone rave that tyhe ADA can be modded to sound like anything from Triple rec to VH.

anyone wanna do the ADA v TriAxis, v Studio Pre. v JMP1 etc etc comparison?

www.adadepot.com does do those mods, but they are all seperate mods.

I've got the JMP-1 and Quad, and a friend of mine has an MP-1, so that's a couple/few right there. I have two other tube pres. I thought about doing a recorded comparison, but they all sound so different, that they each "prefer" different style post EQ. Recording them flat won't be a good comparision. It would almost be better to record them after setting the post EQ to make them all more similar on a frequency response. Then you'd hear the overdrive characters for what they are. That's where I think the un-modded ADA fails, up against the JMP-1 or Mesas. Various pres might be bassier or treblier coming out of the unit, but it's only a surface issue, and mild EQ-ing makes it sound the way you like. But OD characteristics can't be duplicated (or modeled for that matter) with EQ.
