PG, 59, or BB Pro Which do you prefer??

Re: PG, 59, or BB Pro Which do you prefer??

59's and BB Pro's are not too unlike each other, if I had to pick one I would MUCH prefer the 59's...in comparion the BBP's are muddier and have a less defined character. All that said Pearly Gates are my favorite non custom shop Duncan bucker.

PGn for the neck position is my favorite neck humbucker of all time.

The 59B is one of my very favorite bridge pickups of all time...Clapton with Cream tone...my favorite recorded humbucker tone.

So I'm going to say go for the Duncans.

Haven't tried the BB Pro, but I definitely prefer PGs over '59s in a Les Paul (in both positions). They just sound better balanced to my ears - I find the '59s a bit too bassy.

Alot of love for the PG!!!!!!!!

The PG set is probably my favorite matched set for use in a Les Paul...good enough for Billy Gibbons!

However, the set I like even better is the PGn and a Duncan Custom.

I really like the 59 neck in my semihollow. It's sweet and chimey, with a present lower end (but not bassy).

Custom or Custom 5 in the bridge and PG in the neck is pretty impressive in a LP.

PG rules. especially in an LP neck! Should be standard equipment. Next choice is 59. Can't say about the BB pro. But...I'll go DiMArzio PAF over a Duncan 59. STill, PG rules all IMO. It's THE classic PAF sound we all really want...

Never used the BB Pros but I prefer the PG set over the 59 set, I really like the way the PG cuts with my Les Paul!

With some tweaking the BB Pro's are a pretty good p'up. You need to set them pretty far from the strings. I also did the 50's mod and put a 0.047 cap on the bridge tone pot. This really tamed the treble in the bridge p'up.

Same here in regards to BB Pros.
In an Epi LP Standard of mine I put a set of '59's in it first off, and then a Custom in the bridge, then swapped them out for a set of PG's, but ended up putting the Custom back into the bridge. I've always liked the tone of that pup immensely and it seems to get along real well with the PGn that's still there. The Custom kicks out a nice balanced attack of highs and lows with the mid being a sweet equalizer.
That pup, along with the PG and JB are my three fav bridge humbuckers for a LEs Paul or probably any other carved or archtop guitars. Just great classic tone.
