How does the output of a set of Pearly Gates pickups compare with that of a Gibson 490R and 498T pickup?

I've tried that pickup set (the gibson one) in the store. It seems typical PAF: low/medium output. I have a guitar with a Pearly Gates Plus (not the same as a PG, but only by like .3k DC resistance higher) and it's medium output. I'd be willing to wager that the PG set is going to be the same or a tiny bit higher in output, but I can't tell you for sure.

The Gibson 498T is actually a pretty hot pickup - around 16K if I recall correctly, so quite noticably higher in output than a PG bridge model. The 490R is in the classic PAF ballpark so similar in output to a PG neck.
When I had the 498T / 490R in a Les Paul I found it very difficult to EQ my amp to get them both to sound good. Either the neck would sound woolly or the bridge would sound harsh. Not a good match. I know other people get along with them fine but they didn't work for me. Every combination of Seymour Duncan pickups I've tried over the years has worked better for me.

My apologies, I guess I had the wrong numbers or was quoted the wrong numbers on the models. Would a '59/Custom then be a more applicable combo to it?
