pg set in a double fat strat

drew_half_empty

Looking for Real Life
well, I got a PG in the neck of my basswood tele right now, and i like it a lot, except it can be kinda muddy at times, so i'm wondering what a PG set in a double fat strat would sound like?

I'm guessing more mids & brighter, but, anything else? I guess clips would be cool, through old fender amps preferably

Re: pg set in a double fat strat

I love the PG neck in a strat, have had several of them. But IMO it would be a bit trebly in the bridge. I think the perfect double fat strat is a CC/PG combo.

Re: pg set in a double fat strat

well that's actually good, cuz i play psychobilly sometimes & for that you need a really light trebly cutting tone

plus i'd like to have a good middle position

Re: pg set in a double fat strat

The PG's are muddy??? Are you using 500K pots?

What kind of amp are you using?

Re: pg set in a double fat strat

I would say '59's would sound better. But I like higher output, so I may be biased. It all depends on what you're playing music-wise. Well, what are you playing music-wise?

Re: pg set in a double fat strat

yeah, 500k pots, it's just the guitar, it's basswood & has a graphtec nut. '59 sounds great in it though

amp, well, bassman 50 & 100, but the bass side & power section of the 50 are being converted to a blonde/blackface hybrid, and it's got GE/phillips pres & RCA 5881's. As far as speakers i'll soon be getting a 2x12 with jensens.

as far as what i play, well, really any genre that can be traced back to blues. No metal though, very hard rock? yes, but not metal. So basically real hard rock, classic rock, rockabilly, some blues, psychobilly, fusions of some of the above, i'm all over the place, man

Re: pg set in a double fat strat

If the PG's are too muddy but otherwise you like them, just replace the poles with Hex pieces. That will do the trick. Or a treble bleed cap will do the trick also!!

I realised that after posting it so, I decided the treble bleed cap would be a better idea.
