PG Trembucker and Jazz are finally coming . . .

Was beginning to get worried. 3 weeks, almost 4, seems like an eternity these days. But they finally shipped today. Putting them in my Carvin TL60. I am anxious to see how they sound as HBs in that solid walnut beauty but it also has splitters and phase switches too so anxious to see what new tonal possibilities these new SDs will show there too?

Just mellow rock, blues, to some slightly harder classic rock on that guitar to date. But, who knows, the genre palette for the ole TL might expand with the new pups?

Part of the fun for me . . . SD has not disappointed yet.

Will update when they are in . . .

Going with Zebras instead of Metal this time.

Wow! Awesome guitar! Where did you order these from, and why are they taking so long?

Re: PG Trembucker and Jazz are finally coming . . .

Just direct from SD. This is abnormally long. I've had them in 3 days before.

And thanks on the compliment. It is a another work of art from Carvin. The only thing I did NOT think through was a solid walnut TL is just shy of 14 lbs. Ouch! But it has a really unique tone I love. Instead of bright and really twangy like a normal Tele, this guitar is darker but very warm. Finally lost an S22 so just decided to mix things up a bit. I'm confident the ole girl will still sound good maybe way better.

I think that it'll be worth the wait.

14lbs! Wow! Man, I try to get my guitars around 6lbs. That would kill my already-damaged back. Any explaination as to why the shipments were taking so long?

Re: PG Trembucker and Jazz are finally coming . . .

Yeah, Kiesel does weight relieving now that Carvin did not do back then.

No, I was just getting ready to inquire when I got the ship notice.

More PO'd at UPS now. I was supposed to get them before the long weekend here and was going to put them in but now they won't be here until Tuesday.

Very nice axe Bro!! Id love to have another Carvin.. I had a few when I was rolling guitars years back.. Back breaker indeed!!! I have a Burny that is probably real close to 12lbs and it kills my glass back..

Yeah . . . Life should be so tough.

At my age, looking forward to putting in new pups so I can spend 10 hours playing my 14 lb geetar only to have it yanked away at the last minute?

Just plain mean, dang darnit!

But, I will likely survive . . .

Is it next week yet? Between my stupid health and other priorities when my health has cooperated, I am just now getting back to this . . .

Did the tear down tonight . . .

Since I've had a dead pup for quite a while now, I am REALLY looking forward to just playing this again period much less with the new pups!

lookin forward to hearing your thoughts on this after they are installed

Re: PG Trembucker and Jazz are finally coming . . .

Well, had to wait abnormally long last May when I ordered these. No big deal as it turned out since my health got in the way. But, just realized today I have NO surrounds for the new pups. Carvin has the 2 top 1 bottom surround, not 1 and 1. So, apparently I was supposed to order these separately? I don't recall ever doing that before . . . :dunno:

Re: PG Trembucker and Jazz are finally coming . . .

Or you could drill 2 holes in the plastic.

On second thought the right parts will look better.

Never ordered different pickups for a 2+1 guitar before then...........
Thats the only instance when you'd have to do it

Re: PG Trembucker and Jazz are finally coming . . .

No the 2 holes on top are too close together. Try to drill one in between it will just shatter. Ask me how I know that?

Re: PG Trembucker and Jazz are finally coming . . .

Looks like Carvin has moved the 2 closer together too.......I have an old 2+1 spare from a DC 135 that I put in a V build (that the cosmetics mattered less on). The middle hole was no problem as the gap was twice as wide.

Re: PG Trembucker and Jazz are finally coming . . .

I suggest changing rings. Those aren't the cool form-fitted ones anyways since they're for covered humbuckers.

Didn't Duncan include a trembucker ring with the PG?

You can put a hole in between the top two of the Carvin rings. Just have to be carefull.

I've done several like that but I do them by hand with a sharp tiny tack-nail to make a divot then wiggle it back and forth until there is a tiny hole.

Next you just get a slightly larger little nail and wiggle it through to stretch the new hole.

Then screw the regular height screw all the way down and purposely strip the threading on the new hole you've just made, that way the screw is turning freely when bottomed out,,,,,,,Done.

You don't want the new hole exactly between the top two, instead just choke it up about an even 1mm.
The extra "spread" between bass and treble side will match better with Duncan/DMZ/BKP ect,, and it's not near enough to foul the pole-alignment, especially when using trembucker spacing.

Re: PG Trembucker and Jazz are finally coming . . .

Yes, they should come with rings. I hope the wood holes line up with the ring holes.
