PGb in a semi-hollow?

So, I'm looking at a small semi hollow (http://www.heritageguitar.com/models/MilDC.htm) and I was wondering if Pearly Gates in the bridge would be too bright? Note that the Heritage is all maple. I'm going for an edgy, snappy, but not piercing tone, and thinking of pairing it with a Jazz in the neck. Thanks!

my gut reaction is that it should be fine. my personal choice would be the 59 in the bridge. but you wont know until you try it basically

My feelings too. If I went with the Jazz neck, I'd go with a Jazz bridge or 59B. Lew

The PGb is great, it can get very bright and cutting if you want it to, but roll back the tone control and it gets warm and reveals the fatness underneath.
I would go with PG set myself, but if you want the Jazz n, go with '59b as others have suggested.

i love the pearlys in 335 style guitars, they are bright but not overbearingly so and i think they work well in semi hollow guitars

Thanks for the responses! Would the Jazz and PG just not mix well, or be too different EQ wise? I just want something clean and woody-ish sounding in the neck.

Jazz is an A5 magnet and PG is an A2 magnet. some people will tell you not to mix them but personally i think its fine. One of my fave combos is an APH2 (A2) neck and 59b (A5).

if you can afford to experiment then try them both and see which one you like.

i see no reason that a jazz neck wouldnt work with a pgb

I've got that exact combo in an Ibanez AS83 and I love it.
You can definitely here the "woodiness"/"hollowness" of the guitar come thru.

I love to get it right on the brink of feeding back... mmm, hollowbodies.

This is an excellent suggestion. The A5 (JazzN or '59N) brightens the normally dark neck, and the A2 warms the normally bright bridge. This is using the magnets where their greatest virtues are. Mixing magnets, pots, and caps makes a lot of sense, as the bridge & neck positions are such difefrent animals, and a one-size-fits-all approach may not give you the best tone for one of the PU's.

The JazzB & '59B are brighter than a PGB (due to the magnets). I use 250K's on them for warmth, but with a PGB, 500K's work best. Or you can use a different magnet to change the EQ.


All of these are high quality PAF's, and if the EQ is a bit off for your guitar & amp, you can dial it in. No big deal.
