Pgbl

Hi, just bought a pearly, and it is marked pgbl. I'm wondering what the difference is between this pup and the currently listed models which are sh-pgb. Is there a difference? The one I bought was new, unopened, but actually appears to be pretty old. When I removed the plastic off the cover, the plating which was under air bubbles in the plastic is yellowed a bit. Some of it polished out, but some won't. I'm wondering how long a pickup has to sit in the store for the air under the plastic to discolor the plating, which I assume is nickel. Anyway, I'm gonna install it tonight, replacing a custom in my les paul.

Regards,

I belive the change in labels was made in 1994...pgbl is Pearly Gates Bridge, and the l is for the person who would the pickup...like I said I belive the change was in 1994. BTW, the PG's are killer pickups, and a PG bridge is the same from year to year, yours will sound just like a brand new one that they made today! Good luck, enjoy, and welcome to the forum

Re: Pgbl

Cool - thanks for the response, I appreciate it.

I know the pg is great, I've had at least two sets of them over the years. In the past I liked them, but their output was too low for me. These days though, I'm playing a Dr Z Carmen Ghia with a G2D Cream Tone, and I'm into less gain, and more control from the guitar, and the pearlies might work for me. I don't have one for the neck yet, I've got a 59 in there that's gonna get pulled if I can't adjust some of the low end out of it.
