PGNJ - Pearly Gates Neck (older model)?

I recently saw a pu with 'PGNJ' on the underside. I suspect that it is an older Pearly Gates neck model. Anybody have any information on this model?

Never heard of that - Are you sure it's not an "M"J as in MJ the pup winder?

No, it's like I described it. Pearly Gates is all I could guess it was. Google didn't turn up anything, either.

hello folks!! i'm new here and actually didn't know the forum existed until i did a search for PUP info. from what i've read, this is a really cool forum. glad to be on board!!


i pulled this thread up because i own the pickup in question. i did a PUP swap out of my les paul last week. even though i bought the guitar second hand, i assume the PUPs were gibson 498/490. the bridge was a 498 but the neck is a pearly gates with the same sticker on it that snottyboy's does. how did you know it was older? does SD mark their PUPs differently now? are the older PGs more desireable than new ones? forgive all the questions. i'm a newbie.:smack:

Desirable to those that think older pups have some sort of "mojo"...

Many, many pups out there that were wound by MJ.

Welcome to the forum! From my experience older SD pups have a sticker with a ink stamp and the newer ones have a printed one.

thanks 4 the welcome and 411! ya know, if the previous owner would have put a PG in the bridge too, there would have been no need for a PUP change!!
