PG's and DR's.

Re: PG's and DR's.

I especially like them in Strats...but if I ever get a Les Paul again I'd definitely put a PG set in them. Enjoy!

Thanks. When it comes to pups like the PG's, or the Slash's, et al., I'm liking the "alt" guitar makes more and more. The Schecters, LTD/ESP's, Peavey, Ibby's, etc. Not sure why. I just do.

For strings, I like EB Slinky and their Rock 'N' Roll Slinky, 10-46. The Rock 'N' Roll sets are amazing.

I did Slinky's for the longest time. I've sinced moved away from them. My latest fav is the D'Addario NYXL's. Also, the XL's.

I've actually been using Curt Mangan Pure Nickel strings for a couple of years now and I really like them. Great tone and they last a long time; plus I like the tension. His Nickel Wound set is nice too, for something a bit brighter.

Artie, it's surprising how good some of these pickups sound in guitars other than a Strat or a traditional Les Paul, even though I love both of those platforms. The Slash Set sounds so fantastic in my USA Dean Hardtail/Spalted Maple. Since the Spalted Maple is a softer material, the consistency of cork, it has a darker sound than my other Hardtail with a hard Eastern Maple top. The Slash Set really adds the right amount of brightness and bite, while sounding thick and crunchy in the bottom, without being flubby. I found that the Seth's, Antiquities, SNS, APH and Greenie's all sound great in these Hardtail's. The Greenie Set will never leave my other Hardtail again.

I see the Schecter's as being similar; dual cutaway, solid body, well built. The main difference is the 24 frets of the Schecter vs the 22 of the Hardtail. I've never owned a 24 fret guitar, so I don't know how the different neck pickup location effects the tone. Have you noticed any real difference in the sound of the neck pickup on the Schecter or other 24 fret guitars?

Re: PG's and DR's.

I've used Pure Blues in the past, and remember liking them, I think on my ES-175. My Strat seems a little bright sometimes, but I'm happy with the overall sound, so I've been thinking about pure nickel strings.

Re: PG's and DR's.

Pure Blues will warm it up a bit, and are cheaper than brass saddles, plus, they won't beat up your frets as much as steel or plated strings will.

No I haven't. But then again, I haven't had the same style of pups in the 24's as the 22's. So, hard to say.
