Phase 45 alternatives?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Anything? Whatta ya got?

I'm just jonesing for a chewy swirly something! I'd LOVE the T-rex Viper, but Gearjoneser hogged the best buy on the planet for that.

Suggestions?

Any cheap phaser that can adjust to Phase 45-ness? Or something slightly different but in the subtle zone?

Re: Phase 45 alternatives?

From the clips I've heard the 45 is quite subtle compared to a 90. If you want a really swirly, thick but sweet sound just go with a block logo 90 with the R28 mod, a script 90 R.I or try a Whirlwind Orange box. The Orange Box are excellent sounding pedals and made by the guy who designed the original MXR's. I'm assuming you can pick them up reasonably cheap over there?

Re: Phase 45 alternatives?

Do you want a vibe or a Phase 45 because they are not that much the same really...

The script reissue Phase 45 can be had secondhand for less than $100 which is pretty cheep for a handmade, handwired pedal thats a bad ass as it is (I know because I have one!) but it ain't a vibe a bit in the least...

Best cheep vibe, and IMHO it smokes the T-Rex Viper (sorry Joe!) is the Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe, which can also be had second hand for less than a bill.

Re: Phase 45 alternatives?

Again - I just want something a little swirly and slightly thick / chewy.

Subtle is the key.

I recognize that the Viper isn't the Vibiest Vibe out there. That's why i dig it.

Re: Phase 45 alternatives?

First stomp box I ever owned, and it's still on my board. The Ross Phaser probably doesn't fall into the "subtle" category, though.

If you don't care you just want subtle and swirly get a Phase 45 reissue...well worth it and they hold their value pretty well.

You can get 'em new all day long on ebay for $99.99 shipped...can't beat that!

Re: Phase 45 alternatives?

I believe the VFE Enterprise will do what you want, and much more. They're not too expensive considering all of the features you get either.

Re: Phase 45 alternatives?

I've built one for someone using the General Guitar Gadgets Phase 45 pcb. Was a pretty easy build, and it sounded fantastic. Really loved it, and was sad to have to send it off. :( If you'd like to try your hand at building one it's relatively easy if you are ok with soldering.

Re: Phase 45 alternatives?

I hate these kinds of posts. "I want something that sounds exactly like X, but I don't want X." Just get the Phase 45 reissue, and you won't be disappointed. If you get the exact thing that you're looking for, then there's no need to worry about not getting what you're looking for.

And I built a Phase 90 that sounded/worked great, but gave mine away to my bass player buddy! Could build another if needed...I Like the Phase 45 also and it is more subtle by alot compared to the 90...Like the others have said, the Phase 45/90 don't do what a Univibe does...I had a Small Stone that Howard Davis modded for me and it did act and sound like a Univibe...He was one of the early EH engineer guys.

Read the post and then click away! Your post doesn't offer any info..

Yep, it's a variation on the classic "I want Marshall crunch, but I don't want a Marshall" thread.
