Phase problem...need help please!

Alrighty...a little while ago I replaced stock V7 / V8 pickups in my Ibanez RGA121 with Demon in the bridge and a Pearly Gates in the neck.

Seemed to sound fine in both the full on bridge or full on neck positions but lacked a little something when a portion of each was combined. Being that they were both new to me I put it up to my lack of knowledge of the way they should sound.

Fast forward a couple weeks....I get the wild hair ( thanks to some of you here ) to swap the magnet in the Demon to an A8...which I do...successfully I think...

Demon alone sounds O.K., PG alone sounds O.K. but put that switch in ANY position that combines the two pickups in any way and it sounds TERRIBLE! Huge phase cancellation problems going on here. VERY thin and tinny sounding.

My problem is I don't know if my problem started with an initial wiring problem and has been exacerbated by the magnet swap or if the magnet swap itself is the problem.

Ideas?? I'd wrather not take the Demon apart again unless I absolutely have to.

Re: Phase problem...need help please!

im assuming that this guitar only has two buckers and that there is a five way switch right? phase issue is obviously the problem. flipping the magnet in one of the pups may solve the issue, especially if both full buckers are one of the selections and it sounds thin and phasey in that position. there may also be wiring issues depending on what the other selections are. i would first try to flip the magnet in one pup and see where that leaves you.

Cool Jeremy, Yes twin humbucker with 5 way switch...sorry I didn't clarify that first off. I'll give that a shot...forgive a dumb question but when you say "flip the magnet" I'm assuming you mean roll it over 180 degrees not end over end right?

either would yield the same results.
