Phase switch wiring causing hum?

I have an Epiphone Les Paul with the ‘59 neck and ‘59/Custom bridge, both with chrome covers. I had it wired to be master volume plus two tone controls, and a phase switch.

When either the bridge or neck pickup is selcted, there is a humming.
When both pickups are selected and are in phase, the hum is gone.
When both are selected and I switch to out of phase, the hum returns.

The hum is less than a single coil, and is only a problem with high gain. But I like the sound of high gain, so makes the setup problematic.

Does anyone know if the existence of the phase switch would be causing the hum?
Would there be something else that could be causing the hum?

Check your mechanical grounds.......the baseplate/cover. If you have 4 conductors then this is the bare wire. Also, check the cover is soldered on solidly to make the ground connection there.

There is nothing inherently noisy about changing phase. I agree with checking grounds, though. It shouldn't be any noisier than any other setting.
