Phaser for Me

Phaser is an effect that I just love on my Boss GT-8 through my Vox AD15VT (my modern/effect loaded setup). I use it sometimes, particurally with a very low gain overdrive for lead which is awesome. I want to buy a Phaser pedal soon, maybe for my birthday, like a good analog one that I could put on my main setup (Crybaby Classic-->Fulltone OCD-->Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz-->Gibson GA-5). Any suggestions? I was considering the MXR Phase 90, but the new one with the script logo w/o a LED light. I am really looking for a nice smooth one that wont have such a honky midrange to it when it changes phase (ive noticed this with the phaser on my Vox AD15VT) and wont be too harsh with my clean sounds.

Also, what are your favorite examples of phaser? My personal favorite is most of the guitar work (especially the solo) on Zepp's Ten Years Gone which is such a great song.

Re: Phaser for Me

The way Page and Gilmour used phase shifters. Great stuff. I had an old Univox "phazer" that was the deepest, best sounding phase I've ever heard. It was was big black box--and I mean big--with a silver switch and the word phazer was in red letters and strobed with the speed. Man, was THAT cool. They pop up on ebay once in awhile.

Re: Phaser for Me

I'm wondering when Fulltone will come out with a Phase pedal? It's the only popular effect he hasn't done. I'm always on the lookout for an ADA Final Phase, but they're rare, and most sellers know what they have. I wish I could snag one cheap. The ADA Flanger I have is the coolest flange pedal I've heard.

Re: Phaser for Me

The ultimate example is Number of the beast by Maiden- although it may be a flanger. Bah- same bloody things :p

Re: Phaser for Me

The Akai Intelliphase is really nice, especially for what it goes for now. It's only a 4-stage phaser, so it won't have an extreme sweep like, say, a Small Stone. It does have a regen control that exaggerates what it does do, though. Plus, it has a dynamic trigger function that activates the effect when you pick hard or soft.

Re: Phaser for Me

I have a Russian made Electro Harmonix Small Stone that is just incredible!! I swear man it only cost me $31 from eBay and it is out of this world!!!

Re: Phaser for Me

I'm running an EVH Phase 90 in my setup. I use it with my lead tone to give a little more bite. I think it sounds great. I have the 'Script' button on, and the pedal set just about off. The only this is the tone suck when it's off. Fortunately, I now have it and my OD Boost pedal running through a True Bypass loop, so it's out the chain when off, and I can kick one button to activate both pedals.

Re: Phaser for Me

Great question, does any body know what kind of a phaser George Lynch used on "Unchain the Night" on "Under The Lock and Key" when the main riff bounces
from left speaker to the right, just awesome tone, the midds are so under control there. Always wanted to have "that" phaser in my chain.
