Hi There!

It's been a long time since my last post... During that time I build a 5w EL84 based amp from a kit, I'd like to here your opinions!! Is very similar to the P1 model from the AX84 project.

The phat cats are loaded on a home made mahogany, ebony fingerboard guitar.

I hope you'll enjoy this little beasties!

No effects were used, only the preamp gain from the amp, and some of the power amp distortion... :) :)

Check for "phat cat + 5W" (The firts on the list)

Thanks Rid!!

Coming from you that's a lot!

The speaker was a V30 at that time, I've tried different speakers and now I am ussing a Weber 12F150... And I absoulutely love it.

Cool little tune with some fat tones in there. I like that Weber f150 too. Nice round tone with clarity.

Thanks Stevo!

I love the Weber 12F150 for clarity tones... It's pretty amazing... But, to be honest, it doesn't match the Celestion in overdrive. They have a vibe on their own. I play mainly clean so no worries, but I am seriously considering the G12H for this amp. I've hear so many good things about it to not be willing to try it!! :laugh2: :laugh2:

Yes I agree. The f150 is like a jensen c12n, more suited for a fender sound. For my marshall, I think the 25w celestion greenbacks are my favorite. Nice and thick in the midrange.

Re: Phat Cat + 5W home made amp

I don't know why, but I can seriously hear that amp cranking for some mean blues or southern rock. Skynryd to the bone. The overdrive is sweet. I'd love to hear it with the greenback or G12 as well. Must feel great to build an amp and have it sound so cool. Nice work man. :smokin:

Re: Phat Cat + 5W home made amp

Many thanks daemon barbeque and 75 lespaul!

This amp came from a kit I bought from www.ampmaker.com (English vendor). Many people from this forum can install pickups with no problem, and I think those are the basic skills you need. If you have a kit with a proper building manual then you can build it for sure (that was my case!!).

With the things learned building a kit then you can even go for bigger projects...

It seems to me that here, in the US, you can go for a Mission amps kit and build a Tweed Deluxe. As far as I know the manual is very well written. In Europe I recomend www.ampmaker.com, the owner is a very nice man!!!

EDIT: And there are some 18W kits with instructions too...
