Phat Cat or Jazz neck for Les Paul ???

I have an all mahogany Les Paul Special with Humbuckers. I believe it's the 490/498 combo. Anyhow, the neck PU is boomy and I want to replace it with a brighter PU. I like the sound of single coils in the neck. So, I'm thinking of the Phat Cat or the Jazz neck with a coil tap. Anyone have any input as to the sound of the single coil tapped Jazz neck vs. the Phat Cat? I hear good things about the Phat Cat, but the Jazz, tapped, would give me options for humbucking or single coil sound. However, I suspect I will use the single coil the most. So, will I sacrifice tone using the Jazz tapped vs. the dedicated single coil Phat Cat? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

After reading what you've written, my suggestion is gonna be with the Jazz Neck pup, it is a great Humbucker

A Phat Cat neck is not going to be overly bright. They have a big, warm clean sound, and when driven they stay fat, with a nice midrange bite. I like them in a LP, but that doesn't mean you will. Have you checked your pot and cap values, and spent some time adjusting your pups?

If you want a good single coil tone, have you checked the Stag-Mag? It is a humbucker made of two strat-like single coils. Few months ago I bought a pair and I have tried them in different combinations in a Guild S-100 (mahogany, 24.75''). The series tone it isn't very good but the single coil it is just great. It is like the detailed tone of the strat but with more warm actitude and less agressive picking (I guess this is due the 24.75'' scale). If you don't mind buying a humbucker to use only one coil then I recomend you to buy this one.
