Recently I had the idea of converting my SSS strat to an HSS format but with a Phat Cat in the bridge, as I find the stock fender pickup a bit too bright and think the guitar would benefit from the extra P90 grunt. Something that's making me hesitant is picking the correct polarity of Phat Cat, as I will be keeping the neck and middle pups stock, and am aware of the phase issues that can occur when combining SD and Fender pups.
Is anyone aware of the phase and polarity of the Phat Cats and if so which one I should put in the bridge in order to still get hum cancellation when paired with my Fender middle pup?
Additionally, is there anything unusual I'd need to consider when wiring? Even though they're in a humbucker format, the Phat Cats are single coil by definition, so I'm imagining the wiring job to be the same as it would be if I was installing an aftermarket strat bridge pup. One thing I would like to achieve with the wiring is having each tone control wired to the neck and bridge respectively, leaving the middle unaffected (the guitar currently has the vintage style wiring, with each tone control affecting the neck & middle) - any tips for this?
The current pickups in my guitar are just stock Fender vintage style strat.
Thanks
