*PIC & CLIPS* Thursday Burst + Wolfetone PAFs!

Haven't been here in a while now...

But now, finally back after all the Christmas, birthday celebrating and other holiday stuff I took some time to record a clip for you and tried to take some decent shots of my upgraded... almost comlete Thursday Burst project. It's so dark outside (evening here now) but I did my best. Better shots will come when I update the project site next time.

As some of you read I bought a set of Wolfetone Legend PAFs, used at a good price. Both are double black underneath the aged DMC covers that Wolfe provide with these.

Compared to the Gotoh PAFs, these are much more open and raw sounding. Reacts very well to your playing and the volume control. Very PAF vibey. Had to tweak and adjust to poles a little to get them where I wanted and now I'm happy.

As JeffB and others here have pointed out, the Gotoh PAFs that came/come stock on Tokai LR's aren't bad. But if you are striving for the Burst vibe like I am with Thursday Burst. They don't have a chance against these

Recorded with Thursday Burst -> V-Stack Classic -> Tweed Pro Junior (low volume)

The different parts of the clip:

1. Neck pup chording with Neck pup lead.

2. Aerosmith style. Bridge pup all the way, both rhythm and lead.

3. Bluesy licks. Neck pup all the way, starts off with volume at 8, then 9 and at last 10. To show how amazing these are with the 50's wiring. KILLER!

4. Last some countryish stuff. Bridge all the way.

Sounds friggin great bro! Its making me second guess the Duncans I ordered for my Dean :blackeye: I came *really* close to ordering a set of marshallheads from Wolfetone :smack:

Can that V-stack thing do a Marshall 800 type grind? Got any links?

And PS. Thursday looks awesome with the aged covers..much better (IMO) than the double zebras.

Look great. I like the look of the ages pickups in it. The tone is really nice, very balanced and sweet in all the right spots.

One thing though, the panning is too much. Maybe go 65-70% each way.

I really enjoy your threads! just a question about the pups: Are they potted?

I just potted (thickly by accident) the stock ones on my greco (they were completely un potted) and they lost some of their PAF voice qualities.

Yup JeffB, a wee bit better :laugh2: V-Stack goes all the way up to high gain stuff. Give me an suggestion of a riff/song or something and I'll record you a quick shot of it!

Thanks fingerace! No potting here. These are very true to the original late 50's PAFs specwise. May I ask why you wanted to pot em? I don't see it neccesary, if you aren't a high gainer of course

BluesGuyJ, I don't now what they are priced at new. Send Wolfe a mail and ask. I've heard he's a very nice guy, haven't spoke to him myself yet though. He's a member here as well, goes under the name "WolfeMacleod". But you might get to him faster by email.

It's not often that these kinds of pickups come up for sale here in Scandinavia so I jumped on them as I got the chance. I payed ~200€ for the set, one Antiquity costs ~160 freaking euros here. So even though I first thought of getting a set of Ants the decision was quite easy to make. I now afterwards I wouldn't change these for Ants either I think. The Legends are perfect in this guitar.

I would probably have got them in double cream in case I'd ordered them new, just because double cream is cool. Even underneath the covers

I like the lead tone. I don't think that the neck sounds deep enough though. I think the bass end could be expanded, it sounds a bit scooped. It probably mixes well though.

All I have to say is that "you suck" eresseraca, I ordered some Wolfetone Alnico 5 Marshallheads and my number should be up soon; I expect nothing, but an awesome product

I wanted to pot the pups because I got a microphonic hiss at high volume with low gain. After having done that, the problem was not eliminated, but it was reduced.

theboatcandream, they are not all too dark pickups. A positive thing for me, I get to use the tone controls more... more tones accessible. These clips are all played with tone on 10. Backing it off a lil gives a thicker sound with more depth without going muddy as some do when rolling down tone.

I see fingerace, was it you who bought that old 80's Greco? Was it stock Greco pups in it or Dimarzios. I see many of them have Dimarzios.

Wolf....nice to have you hear. I know that I personally would like to see you post more, and share your wisdom with us. I don't believe Seymour would mind.

As for the clips and the guitar, great, great stuff. Nice tone, playing, and of course the Thursday burst looks great as always.

Poorman, more pics to come... it's just so dark outside now all the time that I can't get any decent shots. Have to wait to the weekend when I'm home around 1 o'clock when it's as bright as it gets around here this time of year.

You've guys haven't seen any detailed shots of the laquer checking and armwear in the arm area yet. So I've got some stuff to show you
