Judging from the grain, lemme guess...swamp ash top? It's beautiful.

No, a lot of plaintop maple looks that way.

If I had cash I'd get a R8 in plaintop but to be honest it probably wouldn't be much better.

Re: Pic of your personal #1...

What does a rosewood neck sound like?
I notice a bit more low end and a smoother attack (not as snappy as maple), but the main benefit is the feel. Rosewood is pretty oily and doesn't need a finish.
I've owned 2 PRS and 2 EBMM guitars with rosewood necks and that's been my experience as well. More low-mids, smoother highs, and a lovely feel without any finish.

My recent acquisition of an EBMM Axis makes me think I might prefer the feel of Tru Oil & wax on maple to unfinished rosewood. That's quite a change since rosewood has been my Holy Grail of neck woods for the past eight years.

My OW CS JB strat, dunno if I have a #1, I like my green CS Tele just as much....
But the strat is the guitar that I really connects with.
Same with the Tele, allthough it is a wee bit more mood oriented.
They both have all the things I like about guitars.

Burnys are killer! Mine is ALMOST my number one.. Its weight is both its curse and gift. It sustains amazing, but is a back breaker.

a hollow body, 2 stoptail solidbodies (that is heavy guys, solid purpleheart back with a solid rosewood top, solid padouk back with solid wenge top! 6kilo's, each guitar!) and 2 floyd'd les pauls. here are some better pics.

I could do with these for the rest of my life. These are the only guitars I need. period.

in their 'almost complete' state. I modified the floyd'd les pauls with an easier wiring (more foolproof and assh0leproof; it won't break down, the s1 switch was too fragile for me) and with neck-matching timber backplates. I will modify the stoptail solidbody guitars with new middle pickups when I get my zephyrs for the hollowbody. Or maybe I'll have a guitar build around the zephyrs and put something completely different in the middle positions of the solid stoptail guitars. It's not like I have no pickups whatsoever.

Re: Pic of your personal #1...

Wow!!!

Some really, really nice guitars in this thread.

Looks like you guys rock. Literally.

Re: Pic of your personal #1...

So, which is the #1?

just read what I wrote. they are all my #1. It depends so strongly on the style. for jazz or smooth bluesrock like robben ford, it's the hollowbody. for 80ies hair metal is the purplemist burst with floyd. For 80ies rock or metal it's the solid body rosewood top. For bluesrock with an edge, it's the wenge top and for harder metal or rock, the koa.

so... Not 1 number 1, but five. Five out of 31, ain't to bad?

Re: Pic of your personal #1...

My Squier Classic Vibe 50s.... I redid essentially everything on it but the wood. Has a pair of 59s in it. I really dig this guitar....
