Pick Guard Color Selection

My Strat is similar to this except mine has a maple neck.

I am going to rout for a P-90 in the bridge. The pickups, Wilkinson Trem, Knobs, and Jack will all be black.

I oredered a plain white pick guard and tortoise pickguard. Which do you think would look best with with the natural wood body, maple neck and black hardware?

My intent is to assemble it this weekend.

Black on torty.

How far do you plan to shift the volume pot away from the traditional location?

Ah ... very perceptive, Grasshopper. I ordered the pick guard undrilled for pots. I have done a few sample layouts using vintage hat style knobs and there is plenty of space to move away from the pickup without crowding the pots. It pays to be able to shift all three of them around.

I had no clue it would even be an issue until my order from Warmoth wouldn't process correctly.

I always liked the Tom DeLonge volume location, it moves it closer to the switch. I always end up rolling the volume down by accident with my pinky while strumming when it's in the standard location. I also say tortise, I don't think the white looks right on a natural finish

I will agree with the white not looking good on natural finishes but I personally do not like tortoise pick guards...I would recommend a plain black guard. I'm assuming the dots on the Maple board are black?

Well I only bought two ... the white and the tortoise, and now the tortoise is drilled ... poorly I might add. I still got the volume knob too close to the pickup. I was trying to lay out the pots in a gentle arc like the regular Strat configuration, but I should have run them in a stright line.

I had a polished aluminum made for my start style Fernandez project I'm doing. You should do a clear plexiglass one with some LEDs behind it using a stereo jack of course. And paint the cavity white lol. I'm joking by the way. I personally like the white or a cream on a natural finish.

Re: Pick Guard Color Selection

I bet a burnished copper one would look fantastic with that body and board.

I agree that black would look great. Blonde & black is a classy look.

Moving the vol pot away from the pickup is a great move. I did mine because the standard location is amazingly crowded.

White looks awful on natural wood. Tortoise is pretty sleazy too. I'd go with single-ply black.

Lol. That's a word I haven't heard in a while. I didn't think of black, but it would look good as well, I just think the vintage cream color looks sexy on a natural wood color. Haha
