Pick One - And Why

Re: Pick One - And Why

The Marshall, boosted with a Rat or D+. Reason being it's the only one on the list I have experience with and know how to make it sound good.

I'm not exactly sure if I'd need a boost unless it was for volume, in which case I'd just use an extension cab for "volume". The amp has several gain stages, so I don't think I'd need more gain than what's already on tap.

Re: Pick One - And Why

I have that same cab then, I couldn't remember the model number. It sounds way better than its price even with its "cheap" eminence speakers

True. Though I dial in my stuff at the point of breakup and then use pedals for flavouring or/and pushing it over the top. Besides that, a loud Marshall and a D+ or Rat go together like...errr...whatever stuff you Americans really think go together :).

Re: Pick One - And Why

Peavey Valveking II 20 Watt Tube Head (two channel, effects loop, digital reverb) - Little Blues club tour of small rooms

Jet City 22H 20 Watt Tube Head (two channel, effects loop) - Metal band of originals

Peavey Bandit 112 USA Redstripe combo, (80 Watt Transtube Solid State, with effects loop) - Dive bar tour across America (only amp of the bunch that would survive)

Marshall DSL40C, 40 Watt Tube Combo (1x12 open back combo 2x2 Channels w/ digital Reverb) - All around whatever, rock, blues, metal, cleans (excellent cleans)

That's why the Bandit gets my vote. And is now on my G.A.S. list.

Re: Pick One - And Why

The only one I've ever used is the Jet City and I didn't like it. Having said that, I'd pick the VKII because it sounds great in all the demos I've heard.

Re: Pick One - And Why

I like your thinking! Someone steals my Bandit, I won't be too heart broken. Only paid $100 for it..

Yep - besides it being bullet proof, and doing the job, zero emotional attachment.

That Marshall, as cool as it is is going to get all prissy if I drop it once, and I'll pissed if it is stolen or breaks. The Bandit won't break, and if it is lost/destroyed, I'll just hit a couple pawn shops, drop a bill, get another and rock on.

Re: Pick One - And Why

Bandit 112. Because they're built like tanks and are very adaptable to any kind of music. I used to have one and I regretted selling it.

Re: Pick One - And Why

I've played an earlier version of the Valveking, and the DSL40. I liked the DSL a bit better. I like the DSL's versatility and tone a lot

Re: Pick One - And Why

The Jet City. I already have one going into a 212 with C-Rex speakers, and really dig what it does. It's a beast.

Re: Pick One - And Why

Had a Valveking. Didn't like it at all. Peavey Bandit seems really outdated to me for a solid state amp. I had an older DSL 50 and a DSL 401. Liked them both. I'd go with the new DSL 40c.

Re: Pick One - And Why

I'd pick the JC all the way ! I don't like the muddiness of the Valveking line, I don't really like the Bandit 112 either…. and the Marshall is waaaaay too unreliable to gig with….. go Jets !
