Pick ONE guitar that you would hypothetically use indefinitely. Why did you pick that one?

This is my baby. I love my other guitars, but this one will always be near and dear to me for its uniqueness. It's the first guitar I had with a narrow nut, and I fell in love with it for that. It plays like a ****ing champ, and the PG4n/PG8b combo with individual series/split/parallel switches make it more versatile than even my HSH guitar or my strat equipped with StraBro90's. I love the single coil tones it cops and the full on humbucker tones are raw as hell. She's seen more than her fair share of battle scars, and I think when I get my tax return next year I'm going to get it refinished (in poly, nitro is not for me lol) and refretted.

For the wide frequency range and indefinite musical challenge, I chose my Chapman Stick/Grid (+ a Roland VG99 V Guitar System).

This one... Its the very first guitar I ever owned ive had it since 1989. Has tons of bumps and bruises, needs a fret job, but I can always pick it up and it will make me smile. For me its the gold standard and the guitar that I judge every other by.

Would have to be my Les Paul just because I have had it for 33 years and my grandmother helped me buy it.

My HS tele deluxe. 2 piece, < 4lb swamp ash body, 1" maple/rosewood neck (9.5" radius, 6105 frets IIRC.), ashtray bridge. It's the most comfortable guitar to play that I own and it shakes like a leaf on a tree. Easily my most resonant guitar considering it doesn't have a dense metal block holding the strings.

The neck pickup has a coil tap so it's 7k in series and 6k split.

I get underwound PAF sounds in series, strat sounds split, and tele sounds in parallel. It's wired with a spin-a-split that also rolls in the tap so I can get some great faux p-90 sounds at the settings between split and series. It has a Jerry Donahue bridge which is IMO the best bridge pickup ever unless you have to have noise cancelling.

So, yeah. I would choose that guitar.

That's easy. Here it is ... my PHAT Tele. A versatile beater guitar.

Soundwise, it has become a benchmark for my GAS. And it's a Squier.

My Gibson Traditional Pro Explorer. Right off the wall, bone stock, and it's still the best sounding guitar that I've ever heard. If I only get one, it's that one.

If I have to choose from existing guitars I would go with SG with P90's.

But if I had the money I would oder from luthier something like this:
SG with korina body and neck. Pau ferro fretboard with no inlays. 22 frets. TOM bridge changed to wraparound and move in place of the tailpiece so the neck could go further into the body and the neck pickup could be placed where it should be, just right behind the 22 fret. The rest is as in normal SG Standard. And the pickups would be a variation around vintage P90's of course wound by MJ :)

I hate to do this, because my sentimental favourite is my strat, which I've owned for twenty years. But if I had to pick only one, it would be my 339. By far my most versatile git and best player.

Voggin, your answer is pretty much identical to what I was going to say.

I've had my strat for a longer time, and it's got more sentimental value, but my 339 is the most versatile guitar I've ever played. I'd most likely pick the strat at the end of the day, but the 339 just does everything.

Why? It's light, it's fast, it's warm and beefy, crisp, detailed, punchy and articulate. It's tremendously versatile. It can play literally any genre, except maybe C&W. It doesn't have a tremolo so it's not a diva in terms of setup and maintenance.

My PRS Modern Eagle, I waited long enough and it wasn't cheap but no buyers regret it was worth it.
