- Ibanez RG655 (Wizard HP neck)
- Jackson SL2Q (neck thru)

I'm in the market for a new axe and am having a tough time deciding... I've played the Ibanez and Charvel but nobody near me stocks Jackson.... Any and all opinions wanted... Thanks :)

Re: pick one...

I would say Charvel San Dimas because I love the feel of their necks as opposed to the thin Wizard necks. The Jackson would be nice but I stay away from neck thru guitars after my beloved Jackson Soloist neck thru was broke by a negligent music pastor...

Re: pick one...

Between those 3, Charvel. Charvel has made some killer instruments over the years. Not to say Jackson hasn't, but I think Charvel takes this cake.

Re: pick one...

Good to hear... I was leaning toward the Charvel...

I have 2 guitars now... My fav is my strat... Classic player 60s with an unfinished warmoth padouk/ebony neck (std thin profile)...
It fits me perfectly and is my fav to play but it's SSS And non locking trem so not really metal friendly....

The charvel seems like a hot prodded (<--typo/SIC... but left it because it's funnier to me) version of my current fav..

Thanks :)

Sounds like a sweet neck on your Strat bro

Re: pick one...

Thanks, I sanded the finish off the original fender neck and it was a lot better feel but it came time when it needed new frets anyways and a new neck is about the price of a good fret job... So yeah...

Does the charvel have the same "strat" neck joint? Will they take a warmoth neck?

I can dig it. I own 3 Warmoth guitars and a Warmoth bass at the moment. I love their stuff. High quality custom shop level goods at a good price.

Not sure on the Charvel neck joint but I'm sure that info is online somewhere.

Re: pick one...

Charvel necks are very comfy indeed. For more allround applications I would pick the Charvel (mostly because of the more accessible look I must admit).
Jacksons are great too. The neck thru construction construction does make playing higher up the neck easier and the more frets, the merrier of course . For more metal and shred type playing, the Jackson would have the advantage imo.

Jackson and Charvel have been the same company since Grover Jackson bought out Wayne Charvel in 1978. Granted Jackson/Charvel is now owned by Fender.

OP, if your local dealers carry Fender and Charvel, they can get Jackson. That said, I've been eyeing a Charvel like you're looking at, myself. I fondled one the other day and it played just as nice as my Jacksons, plus my first electric had the Charvel name on the headstock, so it would be nice to have one again. So I would probably go for the Charvel.

Re: pick one...

I'd say Charvel simply because I'm on a strat kick right now.

But I never played an ibanez I didn't like.
