Pick REALLY shape your tone

Re: Pick REALLY shape your tone

If you play with a really hard attack or if you're using heavier gauge strings you'll need a thicker pick. I have no problem with thicker picks, just to be clear on my earlier post, its the edge of that dunlop gel that's really rounded and bugs me.

Note to self: must try this

1mm Dunlop balck nylons for 30 years. yes I can get by with others and even dont mind it for a change , but i do prefer the 1mm Dunlops. I hold them reverse and at an angle. Good control and edgy scrapes when the pick wears abit.

Re: Pick REALLY shape your tone

the orange tortex picks were my choice for years, then i discovered Star Picks. They are just like the dunlop tortex material but they have a star shaped hole in the pick that works like a grip. i get the orange one as its the same as the dunlop orange.

I grow my nails on my right hand, on every finger. If you can keep them in good shape, it gives you the best controle and tone ever.

I totally agree. I do that too because of classical guitar and it gives great tone on the electric too. I use a pick as well of course.

I think guitarists who play fingerstyle or chicken-pick should try growing their nails and see what they think.

Re: Pick REALLY shape your tone

I'm not too picky but my favorite so far are the Dunlop Ultex .72's. Right now I've been messing around with green and blue big triangle picks. I don't know why but I like them. I also get a kick out of people's faces when they ask me for a pick and I hand them one.

I liked the Jazz III's for a while, but I feel like I play too rigidly when I have them. I like being able to groove.

Re: Pick REALLY shape your tone

Everyone should at some time early in their playing history try out as many different pick types as possible, instead of just sticking to what they have always used, or have become attached to.
Especially if changing to a higher or lower string guage.
