Pick up Advice

Hey peeps I'm going to try to keep this as brief as I can! I have a shecter hellraiser-Mahogany body- rosewood fret board- 2010 model with EMG 81-85.
Great for modern metal! Only issue is I'm no longer playing that style ! Im playing lead and rythym in a modern worship setting! - I like the bite and the cut I get with leads but overall lacking warmth! Im looking for the perfect set of hum buckers that are a warmer- cleaner sounding - but just as much brightness as the EMGs- I want to sing and play rythym with warmth but still be able to have the leads cut through! I have tried another shecter with the JB an Jazz- definitely in the right direction - But would like that kind of warmth with a little more brightness and great clean as well!Any suggestions?

Re: Pick up Advice

The Distortion Bridge and the Pearly Gates neck are my goto pickup set of choice.

The Distortion (don't let the name fool you) is a very clean pickup and will respond well to your volume control.

The Pearly Gates just gets me where I need to be in any situation. No matter how heavy the gain or how clean the amp, I always get a beautiful sound from the Pearly Gates and versatility is my game.

The reason why I recommend this set is because A) you can't go wrong with the Pearly Gates in the neck AT ALL and B) The distortion in the bridge will give you the clarity and "upgrade" you need while keeping you in the same zip code as the pickups you are already used to.

This set will seem familiar to you and will come across as "better" in every way.

Your amp will respond better. Your picking will come through. Your Cleans will be more useful. And finally, your guitar will respond in a far more personal way.

If you need anything further, feel free to PM me.

Good luck and enjoy in good health.

The Original Blackouts will give you the added warmth and improved dynamics while retaining that edge you like from active pickups. Plus it would be very easy to replace pickups since Blackouts use the same connectors you have in your guitar right now.

I like Lucy's idea, but instead of the Distortion, I opted for the PGn and a Custom Custom (SH-11). I believe the SH-11 will do exactly what you're looking for since you're no longer doing modern metal. I use Vintage 30 speakers, so the tone is a bit bright, which I think the CC manages to tame. Either way, I find the CC "warmer" than the Distortion.

Well, this depends if you want to stay with actives or not (you will have to switch out other components for passives). The Livewire II Classics are on the warmer side, and the Dave Mustaine pickups are sort of active versions of the JB/Jazz combo.
