Pick up Booster to level guitars

When I play a gig I use my gibby Les Paul with a JB in the bridge and it sounds wonderfull. Occasionally I will switch to my MusicMan Axis to handle those 80's tunes that required a floyd rose. The problem I have is the output of the custom wound pups in the Axis are not as hot so I lose some push in the mix.

I was thinking that the pick-up booster would off set the output difference but I wasn't sure. Has anyone here experience this and what was the fix.

I thought about putting a JB in the Axis but the pick up route for the Axis is only suitable for a Dimarzio and not the JB :(.

I think all you have to do for the JB to fit is round off the tabs.

The pickup booster should work well for what you want, too.

I do a similar thing myself.

I mainly gig with a Les Paul (or a HSS Strat o noccasion), but I use a HBE Uno Mos to slightly boost the volume up for when I use a SSS Strat or a Tele and it works fine :)

Re: Pick up Booster to level guitars

Thanks guys. I'm going to try the pick-up booster and I'll let you guys know how it turns out. If not I'll round the edges off of the JB and install it in the Axis.

Results to come after my next gig on September 21st.

Re: Pick up Booster to level guitars

Any distortion, overdrive, EQ, compressor, volume pedal, etc. would do the trick. The SD Pickup Booster is a fine choice.

If you already have a volume pedal, you can set it a bit lower for the LP, making the tone how you like it, then toe it up for the MM to gain 3 or 4 db.
