pick up choices...

hey, im new to the board. i have been playing with an esp viper-400 which is loaded with dual emg-81's...which were great for the style of music i WAS playing...but now ive realized that old school blue/rock n' roll is for me. and the emg's arent very versatile at all. so im gonna go out and get a gibson les paul standard and pack it with some duncans. i was thinking either dual aph-1's...or an aph-1 in the neck and a PG in the bridge...or vice versu. for blues/rock, and for someone who loves the sound of slash, are these good combinations? what are all of your thoughts??

welcome

in a word, yes

I'm not the expert on Slash's tone, though

word is, his pups are custom wound version of the aph's

my gut feeling is the aph set, however, without checking the specs, the APH n/ PG b sounds good, too

now, I'll defer to others :)

BTW, there's another Slash thread around here that will help

That sounds pretty good, if your looking for higher output in the bridge, a Custom Custom and an APH pair very well too.

Re: pick up choices...

I say that you keep the Viper, it's perfectly fine for old rock. Just load a set of 59's, Seth Lovers, or A2P's.

Re: pick up choices...

alright thanks...i think im gonna go with the aph's...now on to the next question...how much will it cost to get the aph-1's put in my guitar? the emg's are active, so will they need to route anything?

Re: pick up choices...

or could i possibly do it myself? or is it too risky considering ive had zero experience in soldering.

Re: pick up choices...

If you are deticated to slases signature sound then a set of a2"s are your best bet, in a gibson lp, it will kick @ss.
