pick up for humbucker split

What's a good pickup for rock, not into metal territory, that I can split to get clean tones single coil and raunchy to lead tones with both coils engaged? Guitar is just one pickup, based on sg x design. Probably don't need much help with midrange -- I'm running through a swart AST which seems to have plenty. Thanks for any recommendations!

I recommend splitting the 59/Custom combo, making sure the hotter custom coil is the active one when you split.

+1. More reliable in mahogany than JB's.

Definitely. The JB in mahogany is a bit of a gamble, add that to a mid heavy amp and chances are it will be a mess. I'd recommend either the Custom 5 or 59/C, as both work great in Gibson style guitars. They are both scooped as well, which could help to balance your amp tonally.
