Perfect companion for my '77 JMP 2204...

And the good news is the seller only wanted £90 ($178)

It's the old style version, solid construction (no MDF!), big grab handles on the sides, single mono socket on the back. Speakers are the stock G12T-75s - gonna wait a while before I make a judgement on those. Didn't like them in my Jubilee cab, but the JMP has a big bassy sound - they might work. I'll give 'em a try at next Saturday's gig.

I've been looking for a nice 2x12 to use with this amp for a while. Score! :bigok:

That is a pretty picture Simon. Congrats. :)

I think 2x12's are the way to go. Easier on the ole' back.

A quarter stack! Cute ;)

What do these 2204 sound like? I don't know if the circuit is like a more modern 1959/1987 or like a JCM800 in an old style casing...

Somewhere in between the two. The JMP master volume amps started around 1975 and lasted until 1981 when the JCM800 series was introduced. As far as I know, and I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong :D, the earlier JMP MVs were essentially a 1959 or 1987 with a master volume. There were modifications made throughout the JMP MV years (mainly to the pre-amp gain stages I think), and the later JMP MVs were the same circuit as the early JCM800s.

I used to have a 1980 2104 (50w JMP MV 2x12 combo) and my memory tells me it had more gain than my current '77 2204, but that could just be down to having played higher gain amps in the intervening years.

Great amp for classic rock (think Thin Lizzy '76 - '79), but you'd need a pedal for metal.

Hey! I have one of those!

...not totally sure as to whether I'm going to hang onto it though..

Re: Picked up a JCM800 1936 cab today

I played a JMC800 2203 through a cab just like that for several years back in the mid-80's. Loved that 1/4 stack. Mine had EVM12L's in it, so it was almost as heavy as a 4-12 cab.

That is a very sweet little stack!!

BTW, that pickup is on it's way to you.

Congrats bro.

JCM800 cabs are awesome. Arent they the best Marshall ever made?

I got a 4x12" Marshall model 1982 with Celestion Lead80 for 160 pounds!

Thanks Stevie! :fing2:

As if I'm not in enough trouble already for buying a new cab! Been doing a lot of jobs in the garden this weekend to make amends... :newangel:
