Picked up a new piece of vintage gear today.

So, as some of you know, my g/f is a big time collector of vintage Fender stuff, her collection currently contains a '68 Bassman head, 70 Bandmaster 2x12 big body cab, a '62 5f1 Champ and a '77 silverface tube reverb unit. Today she acquired another excellent piece, a 1965 Fender Reverb Unit in Blackface. It's in almost perfect condition, and appears to be all original (unsure on the tube, we just got it home and haven't researched them yet). The best part was the price, $400!!!

Pictures will be forthcoming, possibly later this evening if I have time between all the studying that I need to get done. I'm looking forward to comparing it to the '77 after finals are over!

Here's a teaser picture of it next to the 70's one. Silverface on the right, Blackface on the left.

THat is awesome man! I am green with envy! I have always wanted a nice older Fender tube 'Verb Unit.
You got yourself a hell of a deal on a fabulous unit!
( now wait-you still dig Joyo???)lol

PPS> LOve the Pack! They beat Brady ( hate HIm! ) , and so will always and forever more have a soft spot in my heart for your Fudge- Packers!! Hope they win it all!)

After playing around with it some, the 65 is noticeably more verby and a bit brighter than the 77 at the same settings. That kinda makes me wonder if there's something off in the 77, we've been planning to have it checked out by the local Fender guru (he's got one of almost every pre1975 Fender amp, not to mention being an amp and electrical genius).

And yes, I still dig Joyo for what they do. If I had the money, though, I'd love to replace the two Joyo pedals that still live on my board with something a little bit nicer.

Thumbs up to those amps and to Joyo, but above all else to your girlfriend!
Stop spending money and marry her already, haha!

There is more similar than different between the two...but the differences are pretty big, not the least of which is the AT vs AX at the input, and the K6 vs V6 in the 77 era.
But still, at that age, the 77 needs to be serviced before you can make an honest comparison.
good luck

I think we are going to take both up to him after finals week is over. I definitely think the silver needs some work after hearing the blackface one.
