All you need is a second, black, empty box (pine is nice because it is light) of the same/similar dimensions. Could even be a box that is as tall and deep, but not as wide. Just enough to support the width of your head when the two are side by side.

Nice! I've got an 80's Mesa 2x12 with a C90 in the top (open back) portion and a EVM-12L in the bottom (closed and theile ported) portion. That cab kicks, I'll never get rid of it. I've actually got a friend that's going to give me an old silverface bassman, so once I get it running I'll have two of them that I can run into the Mesa in stereo. It should be crazy awesome.

Funny, my first real rig was a 67 bassman through a mesa 2x12 loaded with black shadows....sounded monstrous with a fuzz and my boost....

Oh yeah, I love fuzz+bassman+mesa. I have a few boutique fuzzes (big muff, SI tonebender, sunface, and I've got a Trombetta fuzz that I'll be picking up in a week or so) and they sound HUGE with the Mesa. like crazy huge. That cab slays for doom/sludge/stoner metal.

I doubt I would like a standard muff with this rig. But mine has an excellently voiced mid control, which helps a LOT. Just a slight mid boost compared to a regular muff - enough to cut through but not much more - makes it sound MONSTROUS.

I hear you, I went through quite a few dirt pedals with that amp, didn't like the DS1 with it, Metal Zone was total ass, didn't hate the Xtortion with that amp though, I got some decent tones with it....I really liked the hyperfuzz with that amp though....Wish there were as many fuzz offerings in the mid 90s as there are today, I'd probably still have that rig!~
