Picked up a tube amp today

But of course, my Rivera Rockcrusher hasn't shown up yet, so I can't fire it up. :banghead:

Re: Picked up a tube amp today

BS, I had a 100W tube amp and a 4x12 in my apartment and I fired it up on a daily basis. Granted it didn't get to the point of breathing fire and blowing women's clothes off kinda volume, but I still played it.

What's your excuse, Iceman?

A homeowner's association and a lack of a 4x12? :D

The Rockcrusher's going to be used as a line out into the computer and IRs will be used for recording.

Re: Picked up a tube amp today

Rockcrusher showed up today. Since it was on a UPS truck in the AZ heat, decided to let it cool down for a day before putting it to use. (The whole unit was extremely hot to the touch.) Will get everything put together tomorrow, and maybe take some pics.

Re: Picked up a tube amp today

I'm confused.

Is this thread about your new amp, or the Rockcrusher?

A little bit of both.

Today I ended up using the Rockcrusher as JUST a load, and ran the effects out to the computer, as the line out on the Rockcrusher would start squealing if I turned the amp up loud enough to get a good signal out of it. Could be a ground loop, I'll have to try that out later.

Re: Picked up a tube amp today

master volume is your friend. if it's not a master volume amp then you just bought one of the best attenuators out there. the rock crusher is awesome.

It is, but it cost more than the amp. :D

One of these days I just need to wire one of these up to a jack and be done:

Lol I hate you. this is the worst icemanning since Iceman.

Re: Picked up a tube amp today

Okay, finally found the sweet spot with the amp and the RockCrusher. The thing is, I can get the same tone through the RockCrusher and loading IRs as I can using the Effects loop out and then into the computer and loading up power amp sims and then IRs, so I'll probably sell the RockCrusher and then just use that load for $14. :D

Ignite Amps has this freeware beauty:

Since I also own Revalver, I've got access to Marshall, Peavey, Mesa, and Fender power amp sims. (I'm using a Mesa and Marshall power amp right now. I swapped in 6L6s in place of the EL84s.)

Oh yeah, I'm using this amp:

A bunch of 12AX7s using the solid state Rectifier, and then a bunch of 6L6s. (I'll play with the tube rectifier later.) Haven't quite found the tones that surface54 has been getting, but I'm getting there.

Oh yeah, this bad boy was $280, including shipping, tax, and a 1 year warranty. :D
