I'm puitting a pickguard on my SG, singe pickup model, Gibson Ebony color. Right now, I'm torn between a couple of colors. Maybe you can push me over the edge, or suggest some other cool colors. The top three I'm stuck on are: tortoise, alabone, or cream. If I went with cream I would also change the pickup surround to cream as well. What do you think?

The black guard would look great on your SG..........B/W/B/W/B.........5-ply.......

Have you given any thought to the SG Junior-style guard I suggested before?.......

That would be unique, especially if you decided to have it cut out of some cool material, like the Abalone, or Tortoise.....

Re: Pickguard for SG

yeah dude definately go JR style, they look way better with 1 pickup than a regular sized one

The SG-X guard looks like this:

I like the Jr. guuard, but I'm not sure it will fit because of the humbucker.

TC, that SG looks classy - like it's wearing a Tux. :D

My vote goes to a white pearl or mirror.

Re: Pickguard for SG

I'm also not sure I can put a Jr. style on there because it has a 24 fret neck (like the green one listed above).

Are you handy with a file, or Dremel tool? You can either MAKE a guard from a blank sheet (www.stewmac.com), or just modify a Jr. guard to fit your 24 fret neck.

If you decide to cut one from a blank.......

1. Draw out your design on paper first.
2. Fine tune the fit on your guitar.
3. Transfer the template to your guard blank.
4. Use a scrollsaw or coping saw to cut OUTSIDE the line you drew.
5. Use file(s) and sandpaper to work the shape down to your drawn line, and then smooth the edges with finer sandpaper.
6. If you're real crafty, use a router to put a 45 degree chamfer on the edge.

It's easier than it sounds, and a Junior guard would be a pretty simple project if it's your first.

Re: Pickguard for SG

I probably would try it, if I have any of those tools. Sometimes it's just easier to pay $20 to have someone else do it.
