I was also using coily or long thick colored cables whose high capacitance would be understood by my thick brain a few years later, albeit their tonal influence was absolutely clear to my ears. :D

That's must have with the Fuzz Face (:
I switched to EMGs very early in my musical life, so for the first, most, ahem, complicated years I was free of that kind of troubles, my guitar just worked with almost any cable.

+1 about fuzz pedals. I've devoted a topic to this question on MLP a while back...

And yep, active pickups avoid the downsides of stray capacitance. But I often wish the active electronics in some of my guitars produced less hiss, TBH.
