Picks for a warm tone - your tips please

Re: Picks for a warm tone - your tips please

I haven't played any of the more expensive picks made out of wood and stuff like that. The easiest way to hear what a pick can do to your sound is try it on an acoustic. I normally use Dunlop Sharpies (the blue ones 1mm I think) but on an acoustic they make the sound dull. For acoustic I like something light gauge with some flex, not paper thin, for cleaner electric stuff I also like a thinner pick, really helps bring the ring out. Most distortion stuff I use my sharpies, keeps my lows heavy and my highs warmer

Picking up on the neck around the 20ish frets also yields a warm, round tone.

I'm starting to realise more fully the effect that different types of picks have on tone. I'm looking for warmth and thickness (blues, big Gibson tones) and have tried a few, including Dugains which are cool but outrageously expensive.

What have you chaps had success with?
If all else fails I would seriously consider making your own from a mixture of fossilized gum boot and 10 year old parmesan cheese. - Now that's tone + !
