Picks

Re: Picks

yeah and i hated them lol

I remember them, but never had the pleasure of trying one.

(Seemed kinda dumb!) [emoji56]
My guess is that they were made for bass players who liked to play with a pick, but wanted to sound like they were using their fingers. I have no idea though. That was just my guess. I never tried it and put it to the test to see if that was the case.

A lot of ukulele players use them too.

I'm a hard Jazz III player. I go back and forth with the Tortex (1.35 mm), the Black Ultex 2.0 mm (I love the way the letters make a grip on the pick as well as the way it glides off the strings), the Red Nylons, and the Black Stiffos. I need to find one and stick with it, but I can't for some reason.

For acoustic, I use a Tortex TIII .6 mm (the orange one). It's thin enough to do get a nice percussive pick sound off the strings (Paul Gilbert refers to it as a "fwap"), but thick enough that if I need to really dig in and abuse the strings I can. The red Tortexes were too thin to do that.

For bass, I try to use my fingers, but sometimes you need a pick for fast stuff so I use Tortex .88 mm Sharps.

Re: Picks

Celluloid Fenders heavey and medium teardrops(they stopped making the shape I like, which annoys me a great deal) , also triangle celluloid picks...D'Andrea (who makes all those celluloid ones if I remember correctly)

Re: Picks

Dunlop Tortex The Wedge picks.

0.60mm for acoustic - I like the "clickiness" and percussive feel when strumming.
0.88mm for electric - enough thickness for single string picking/riffing but need something to chug and strum too.

Re: Picks

V Picks Euro -II
totally spoiled me for all other picks
they last forever are excellent to grip and not move even if i sweat and they play ridiculously fast
yeah, they're stupid expensive for a friggin guitar pick, but i'm worth it

For a long time I used the orange Dunlop gator grips .60 (I think) Still use those with accoustics mostly.. For electric I went from Red JazzIIIs to the Eric Johnson Jazz IIIs. Now I use the black Carbon Fiber Max Grip JazzIIIs

Re: Picks

Hey guys!
I think it'd be cool to post what picks we use, it can give us a chance to tell people about which picks we prefer and maybe give other players ideas for new ones to try out. To start off, I've been using the Chicken Picks 3.0 mm pick for the past 2 months and I've loved it!

Still using .60mm Tortex, slightly thicker for nylon. It's just what works best for me; any thinner and I get that ugly pick slap sound when strumming, any thicker and the pick starts jumping in my fingers making strumming feel too different from articulated picking. Just wish Dunlop hadn't settled on that day-glo orange for the original Tortex picks of that thickness; my next dozen picks (don't go through them all that fast but getting close) will be the Pitch Black .60s.

Re: Picks

I like the TUSQ picks. Been using the 1.00 Bright and 0.68 Warm, depending on the occasion.

I've used all of those and the one I like best of them is the regular Red JIII

I like the orange color. Paul Gilbert uses them and loves the color because they match the Phase 90.

I was pleasantly surprised by the bright and warm tear drops. The deeps didn't sound too much different from regular picks.

Well, one pick costs a bit, but since they last so long, it balances out.. I have a couple V picks and a couple of gravity picks that Im experimenting with.

Re: Picks

I have three of the large, black, equilateral triangular Gibson HEAVY ones from the Eighties, before they changed the type of plastic. These have lasted this long because I mainly play guitar and bass with nail and skin.

I also have a random bunch that were given away free in string packets, from shops and on magazine covers. These can be offered to visitors or thrown in with a guitar that I happen to be selling.

I've been using Winspear picks for the last 7 months and I really love the. I have the tapered shiv sandstorms and stealths and that design really puts less tension on my right hand. Very durable

Wow... Those are fancy! I just checked out their site and they look pretty sweet, but the pricing and thickness kinda scared me off. Just never been able to get along with picks any heavier than 1.0mm. Still... hmmmm... [emoji6]
