Picks

Re: Picks

I do lose picks a lot, so I won't spend a ton of money on them, and I refuse to have a 'special' pick that I get attached to and will ultimately lose.

Less losing them than losing interest in them for me. I believe you gig so that would explain the difference. I bought some gravity picks before and while they are okay, they aren't superior to ultex imo. They were about 5 bucks each which is about the limit I would consider for a long-lasting pick, but I'm back to buying cheapos.

Re: Picks

Aren't those that "Ultex" material?

I have one I bought for try out but it's too snappy.

The Acetyl pick is the white one, I found the Ultex type thinner sounding. I used the Acetyl for a while but went back to celluloid, I haven't found an alternate material pick that gives that "pop" when you pick the notes, when the pick starts getting worn on the edge. The Acetyl was close to celluloid, but not close enough. It does wear longer than celluloid, but I just learned to live with the shorter life of celluloid to get the sound I like. The problem is that I like the .84mm celluloid (MH), and D'Andrea is the only one that still makes them, Fender used to but stopped, and the big stores stopped carrying that gauge. I can only find them on Amazon, and they are often out of them. You have to wait around till they have them back in stock, then buy a couple of 72 pks, and hope you can get more when you run out. I don't know why MF, GC, and the associated stores stopped carrying that gauge, but they used to have them, at least in 12-pks.

Re: Picks

My Dunlop jazz 3 black picks are carbon fiber, the red ones are plastic. Carbon seems a bit warmer in sound, red ones are a tad brighter.
Both play very well.

These are what I use as well. Used the Red for awhile, then switched to black. but these have the little grip bumps and are easy to hold/hang on to. Plus, they seem to last a long time as well

I suspect that's what I've been after as well. Everyone is selling those "Heavy" celluloid picks, or thinner "Mediums". Fire & Stones I was using were about as yours, 0,88 mm thick, but softer than those "medium" celluloid picks available everywhere.

Re: Picks

I've found the best pick ever!

Ordered one of these just out of interest. Then ordered dozen after trying it out.

They have very low "picking sound", less than those rarer celluloid ones I've been after. They're also tighter, so better focus, and have really nice grip. Also they're just the right size: Smaller than typical celluloid, but large enough to be comfortable to anything.

I think these are perfect.

Re: Picks

These have been my favorites for a while, but lately I've liked playing without a pick more and more.

Re: Picks

I've always liked the jazz shape/size but couldn't find one that worked for me until i found the JazzIII tortex. Theyre precise and don't slip like the regular nylon ones did. I also like the new Tortex flow, a little larger but similarly shaped.
