Pickup adjustment screw heights

I’ve replaced the pickguard on my HH tele, and neck pickup cut isn’t big enough to accommodate the pickup ring, just the pickup. I’ve therefore mounted the pickup directly to the pickguard without the ring. The only problem is the pickup mounting screws are a bit too long and the heads don’t sit flush against the pickguard, as they’re designed to be long enough for a pickup ring. I can shorten the screws if needs be, but wondered if you can get shorter mounting screws for direct pickguard mounting. Any ideas?

You can also Dremel the screws, if you have a vise and a steady hand...and a Dremel. But shorter screws are available, too.

The screw is most likely a 1-1/4 inch, 3-48 thread, phillips pan head screw. 3-48 thread isn't super common at the local hardware store so cutting about 1/4 inch off the screw (with a dremel and a cutoff wheel) will give you the fastest solution, but be careful to do a straight cut so you don't mess up the threading at the (new) end of the screw.

You could also order 3-48 thread stainless steel screws in 1 inch lengths from many places online, that's what I do to get screws that fit HH configurations for my strats, but that will take a few days for shipping. I use albany county fasteners (googled)..

As was mentioned above, make sure you use a vise to hold the screw, **and be aware the process will throw sparks so don't do it near flammable items**.

I would not recommend a hacksaw because the part is too small, you'll end up mangling the end of the screw..
