Pickup advice for alder body Jackson

Hey guys

So I'm looking at replacing the passive Hz emg pickups that
Came in the guitar. It's a Jackson king v with a floyd rose bridge
And an alder body. At the minute I'm using a Marshall valvestate
Vs 100 but I'll probably change it soon.

I play melodic death metal such as edge of sanity, hypocrisy, amon
Amarth, children of bodom and arch enemy. I am particularly impressed
With the guitar tone of dan swano, and amott.

I think i'venarrowed my options down to Dimazio d activators or the
Standard Emg 81/85 combo. However when I emailed dimarzio they
Recommended a d activator/liquifire combo.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers

Didn't Mike Amott used JBs forever? I would suggest a JB or a Distortion.....

maybe a JB bridge/Demon neck or the Distortion set....

Re: Pickup advice for alder body Jackson

honestly I would pick a Custom or a Custom 8

The swano and amott tones are very even sounding, with fat bottom end, which describes the Custom/Custom8 perfectly.

Hot Rodded Humbucker Set (JB/Jazz) if you want Alnico mags

Mayhem Set (Distortions) if you want ceramic.

Sold as sets; cheaper; get 'er done ;)

I am not a personal fan of Dimarzio. Something about the whine-y sound w/fizziness. Duncans just sound so much better to me.

I do like EMGs, but perhaps try passive first. That way you don't have to worry about adding the preamp and getting batteries to stuff in the cavity, etc.

There's a good clip in here where this guy does a demo of 12 Duncan bridge buckers...both passive and active...in a metal setting (very cool). To my ears, the Distortion and the JB sounded the best. The Gus G was cool too tho.

Here are two VERY good comparison vids:

Go with the Custom (SH-5) if you play in E or D tunings. Choose the Distortion (SH-6) if you want to go lower. Both are awesome metal pickups. My current favorite is the regular Custom though. It's very hard to beat (for metal) once you've tweaked it right.
