Pickup Advise for a Les Paul - w/ PICS

Re: Pickup Advise for a Les Paul - w/ PICS

Ahhhhhh.... I'm back again to deal with yet another road block in the way of my tone quest. :raincloud

So I'm checking pole spacing in my Les Paul today, and discover that it's F-spaced. Does this mean that the Trembucker Custom (TH-5) would line up better with the strings rather than the Humbucker Custom (SH-5)? Are there any tonal differences between trembuckers and humbuckers?

Another question I'd like to ask is regarding pickup covers. I love the chrome accents that come with my guitar, so I'd like to maintain that vibe. I was hoping the trembucker spacing would be the same as the 498T so that I may use the stock covers... I doubt this to be the case, considering life has a way of always putting another hurdle in my way. :argh: LOL Since it probably won't fit, and since Duncan only sells Nickel covers, I'd like to get some custom engraved chrome covers... perhaps celtic designs, or something)? I already checked Greasy Grooves, and was hoping for more options.

THANKS GUYS!

Those Gibson 'Flood' guitars are sexy. Came here just to say that.

Thank you!

Any suggestions or comments about the Trem/Humbucker issue?

EDIT: I should've done more research... I found the answer. <50mm, get a hum. >50mm, get a trem. But my question regarding pickup covers is still on. :D

Re: Pickup Advise for a Les Paul - w/ PICS

Forgive me for the bump... I'm hoping someone can direct me in the right direction.

(1) Does anyone know where I can get a CHROME cover for a Trembucker? I've really done a lot of research without bearing any fruit.
Edit: Greasy Groove covers won't fit the Trembuckers (I'll attach the pictures)
(2) If I find a cover for the TB-5, will it fit in the stock Gibson Les Paul stock pickup rings, or do I need to replace those as well?
(3) Will getting the h/b SH-5 alter any tone if the guitar better fits a t/b (TB-5), since it will be a lot easier finding aftermarket parts for the hb?

I apologize if I'm coming off overly redundant in my posts. I appreciate everyone's patience with me.

get chrome coverd blackouts

If I was going for an active P/U, I would definitely try out the Blackouts. Have tried a few EMGs before, so the Blackouts would be a nice breather from them. But they're a bit darker than what I'm shooting for in the Les Paul. I appreciate the suggestion, though! :headbang:

Jerry uses a lot of Motor City pickups. Adams is using some of those too now.

Hot Strat is hot.

Re: Pickup Advise for a Les Paul - w/ PICS

Why not just use a normal spaced SH5? The trembucker thing is more aesthetics than anything else.

Thank you for telling me that. I was worried that it may affect the tone. The SH-5b it is, then!

This this is what I recommend Too

I agree! I was contemplating the Alt 8 or Custom in the bridge and between the Pearl Gates and '59 neck... ultimately decided on getting the Custom-b/PGn.

Re: Pickup Advise for a Les Paul - w/ PICS

Once I put the Custom in the bridge of my Les Paul, I wondered why anyone stocks anything else. It's perfect.

Re: Pickup Advise for a Les Paul - w/ PICS

I acquired a new guitar recently. It came stock with a set of engraved EMGs (81b/85n). I hope I don't get flamed for this, considering it's a Duncan forum, but I wanted to share it with you guys. I do love the way it feels and plays! It's a Schecter 35th Anniversary C1 Prototype. Hope you guys like it!

Re: Pickup Advise for a Les Paul - w/ PICS

Spacing: Ignore it. Raise a pole a hair or two if tone is an issue. neither spacing may be perfect. DIstance from string to pole is the issue, not the alignment.

If the Custom is a touch harsh, try that tone knob a hair.
If you still really don't dig it, then try the A8 mag in there for a C8.

Other wise...how is it all going?
