I've heard this referenced to alot with pedals, amps, and pickups. Originally I found it used with using too much gain "The sound would bleed" or whatnot.
I really haven't the slightest clue how its used.. just throw a few contexts at me.

From what I know, you can install a treble bleed mod in your guitar. The surgery is quite simple. Solder a capacitor (any size you want, each one affect how much bleed there is) or a cap and a resistor to the 2 lugs on your volume pot (3rd being grounded, obviously). This allows for the higher frequencies to still "bleed" through even when the volume control is rolled down. Come to think of it, I don't know why i haven't done those to my guitars, simple, effective, cool!! (psst. SD website has the wiring diagram for it under Misc. and the May 2007 Guitar One has a guide on how to do it!)
