Pickup change on a Epiphone LP Standard

Hi everyone. Ok, i'm thinking about changing my pickups on my Epiphone LP Standard. I play mostly rock/metal but I don't want pickups that will restrict me to these styles. I was looking at the SH-10 full shred pickup for the bridge. Any opinions would be helpful.

Re: Pickup change on a Epiphone LP Standard

I don't see any reason not to buy a JB and a 59.
They match exactly your description.
That's why the JB is THE best seller.

Now if you want "not to sound like everyone" go for a custom. But the Jb is more versatile. It's THE most versatile.

Re: Pickup change on a Epiphone LP Standard

I seen the 59 and the JB, but I believe rather have one of the customs. Which one would you suggest?

Re: Pickup change on a Epiphone LP Standard

I have the Custom (b)/59 (n) in mine and it covers almost all ground. Classic rock to hard rock/metal to blues to singing cleans. It'll do it all.

Re: Pickup change on a Epiphone LP Standard

What about a SH-10 at the bridge and a 59' at the neck? I have heard that the SH-5 lacks low end definition.

Any of the Customs (Custom, Custom Custom, Custom 5) paired with either a Jazz neck, Pearly Gates neck or Alnico II Pro neck.

Dare I recommend another brand, but DiMarzio's Super Distortion in the bridge with a PAF in the neck is really cool, and surprisingly diverse.

Re: Pickup change on a Epiphone LP Standard

My Duncan recommendation: PGneck, Custom Bridge. But that 59/JB might not be bad either.

And since Erik brought it up...the PAF/SuperD combo rocks. And in all seriousness...when I blend in the Superd with the neck on the acoustic simulator....I'm amazed at what it does! and for the record - I prefer the PAF to the 59.

Re: Pickup change on a Epiphone LP Standard

For Duncans,I've got the Jazz/Custom combo in my Gibby & they're excellent!

I put DiMs in my LE Epi LPC PAF/Norton & am pleasantly surprised.

FWIW...

I'm assuming that you are talking about a DiMarzio PAF. Which one would best fit?

Re: Pickup change on a Epiphone LP Standard

I think the Custom would work well for you. I'm a fan of the JB as well. I agree with Erik and Aceman though about the Super Distortion - I love that pickup.

mann this makes me curious about dimarzio's PAF/SUperD combination..! i just installed a PG/Custom into my epi, it's really great but now i need another guitar..(to try the PAF/SuperD combo)

I've ordered AlnicoII/Custom for my Epi. I'll let you know how it works.

The custom would rock in that guitar, by no means does it not have enough low end it has plenty, and its tight aswell.

Re: Pickup change on a Epiphone LP Standard

I put it in yesterday, and I like it. It does have that scooped louder paf thing going, and that's what I was looking for. Nowhere near as fat as my Rebel Yell in another Epi, but I didn't want to exact the same sounding guitars.

And nothing but praise about the Alnico II Pro. Man, that is a sweet pickup, though very different sounding from the Custom. Oddly, the two combined do sound great, like a bigger tele. Also, volume wise, they work perfectly together, which kinda surprised me, seeing the alnico vs ceramic and the difference in DC
