Pickup choice question....

my girlfriend owns an Alverez Artist series hollowbody electric, and she's interested in putting in a new pickup. I couldn't even find this guitar on the co's website, so i have no idea what's even in it to begin with, so i wanted to see if anyone here had any idea, and any recommendations as to some good pickups to swap it out with.

one problem she has been having is that at higher volumes, the guitar feedsback something aweful when playing certain notes and/or chords, and she can't get it to a suitable volume to play with her band.... any ideas?

thanks.

Re: Pickup choice question....

I thought Alvarez only made acoustics, shows what I know! It would help if we knew some specifics: Humbucker or single coil? What amp does she use? What style does she play? Since it is a hollow body guitar I am tempted to recommend a brighter pickup like a 59 or Pearly Gates, but without knowing what she wants to achieve tone wise that could be a mistake. Give us more info and you will get a lot of good suggestions.

Re: Pickup choice question....

she plays a mellow rock, folk-influenced style of music. mostly clean guitar, but with occasional use of a lighter more 'classic' grittier style distortion. the pick-up is a single coil that resembles the SP-90 soapbar design.

as far as amps are concerned, she has used a couple different types. she has access to a vintage ampeg VT-40, a marshall DSL 100 half-stack, and a vintage gibson tremolo amp.... all owned by myself or other members of her band. she's int the market for an electric amp and is considering some fender products. tube of course.

Re: Pickup choice question....

Consider this a bump as I am not well versed in the whole P-90/soapbar area.
