Pickup Covers

I am installing nickel pickup covers and don't want to solder them. I am entertaining the idea of hot gluing them. Do they need to be soldered? Has anyone tried gluing them and does not grounding them make any difference?

Re: Pickup Covers

In theory, they might still ground themselves by coming in physical contact with the baseplate even if not soldered. Not an ideal ground though and you run the risk of noise.

I say solder them on.

Re: Pickup Covers

Stuffing some kitchen aluminium foil between baseplate and cover will
get the job done.

But why do you want to glue? That'll be a pain to get off.

And you need some wax on top, otherwise they might get microphonic.

I rarely re-solder covers on; usually the wax holds them well enough. Don't have any issues with noise or microphonics. If you play really loud, it could pop up though.
